Bring Me The Horizon to release ‘POST HUMAN: NeX GEn’ at midnight

Bring Me The Horizon have announced the release date for their long-awaited album ‘POST HUMAN: NeX GEn’ – confirming it is coming tomorrow (May 24).

The Sheffield band shared the surprise news in a post on X/Twitter this afternoon (May 23), dropping a minute-long teaser for the project and confirming that it will be out at midnight.

“BMTH invites you to Ascend!+,” they wrote in the brief caption. “‘POST HUMAN: NeX GEn’ [out midnight 24.05]”.

While no official release date had been shared up until now, the long-delayed album was expected to drop at some point this summer.

It marks the follow-up to 2020’s ‘POST HUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR’, and was scheduled to arrive last September after being announced during the band’s headline debut at Download Festival. However, the record was later delayed due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

It is BMTH’s first album since the sudden departure of longtime bandmate Jordan Fish, who had been a part of the line-up since 2012.

Today’s announcement also comes just weeks after Oli Sykes and co. began teasing that the release was getting close to being released – dropping a surprise teaser for the project online in April.

“You cling to your virtual identity as if it were your very soul. Pathetic. I’m here to wipe away the detritus of your existence,” read a robot in the clip. “Farewell insignificant content… It’s time for a new era. Initialising NeX GEn.”

The album has faced countless delays over the past months, with the group citing “unforeseen circumstances” that left them feeling “unable to complete the record to the standard we’d be happy with”.

Sykes further spoke about the record in a chat with NME last June, calling it “unhinged”: “I wouldn’t say it’s a hyper-pop album, but I’ve definitely been inspired by that world. I admire how obnoxious, trashy and in your face that music feels, which is what I was drawn to when I got into emo, hardcore and screamo.

“It’s not that we’ve lost that in our music, but as you become a bigger band, things do get more polished. I want to go the opposite way. Let’s be unhinged, let’s stop trying to make all the edges smooth.”

The vocalist provided a further update to us this March when we saw Bring Me The Horizon at the BRITs. “It’s nearly finished, but it’s not finished,” Sykes told NME.

“Every time we think we’ve got it, we get another song,” he added. “It’s going to be right good though, it’s our best album ever… Worth the wait.”

So far, the band have previewed the latest single from the album called ‘Kool-Aid’, with ‘DArkSide’, ‘LosT’, ‘AmEN!’, ‘DiE4u’ and ‘sTraNgeRs’ also speculated to appear on the imminent LP.
