In an interview with Men’s Health, the Spider-man actor described his relationship with alcohol. “My problem was that I would have one drink and be fine, and then I would just go too far” he explained. “Every Friday after work was a write-off: Let’s get drunk and have a good time. I didn’t have bad experiences, but I would drink enough so that I would ruin my next day”.
Holland took part in Dry January, going the entire month without drinking, back in 2022, but kept going after he felt the benefits and realised the hold alcohol had on his life.
He began to see the benefits professionally as well as socially, discussing the atmosphere while working on Apple TV+ show The Crowded Room. “There was quite a lot of animosity on that set. It was not a very harmonious place, and there was a lot of arguing and butting heads” he recalls. “I thought, If I start drinking again now, with all this going on, it’s gonna get worse, right?”

In order to remain sober, the actor created a supportive circle. “I leaned on close ones a lot” he said. “Family, friends, old colleagues, new colleagues, people that reached out that I didn’t know who also were sober.”
He also recently launched his own drinks line, Bero, saying: “I started exploring the world of non-alcoholic beers and realised there was space for me to fit in”.
On the big screen, Holland is currently working on an untitled fourth Spider-man film, blockbuster Avengers: Doomsday, and has been cast in Christopher Nolan’s next project The Odyssey. Recently, he described how his Spider-man fame came in handy when breaking up a fight in a supermarket.
