The finale of season three of Invincible has achieved one of the highest ratings ever on IMDb, aligning itself with some of the all-time great moments in television history.
Titled I Thought You’d Never Shut Up, the episode is an action-packed conclusion to the superhero show’s third season. Mark Grayson aka Invincible (voiced by Steven Yeun) faces off against Conquest (Jeffery Dean Morgan), a powerful Viltrumite, in a brutal battle that threatens the planet. Meanwhile, Atom Eve (Gillian Jacobs), recovering from a coma, joins the battle to aid Mark.
The episode’s rating stands at 9.9 out of 10 after over 60,000 reviews, putting it among the highest rated of all time alongside episodes such as Battle Of The Bastards from Game Of Thrones, Succession hit Connor’s Wedding, and Breaking Bad classic Face Off.
The ratings are a weighted average of votes by registered users of the site, meaning the vast majority of those voting felt the episode was the best it could be. Press reviews would appear to agree with viewers, with Rotten Tomatoes scoring the season at a maximum 100 per cent from verified critics, with the site’s audience score not far behind at 93 per cent.
The series is an adaptation of a coming-of-age superhero comic book written by Robert Kirkman. It was first published in 2003 and ran for 144 issues. It spawned a number of spin-offs, with the beloved Amazon Prime Video show premiering in 2021. A fourth and fifth season were confirmed last year.
Kirkman has confirmed a big budget Invincible game is in the works, saying recently: ““I don’t know what I can say…It’s definitely cool. I don’t even know if I can say how much of it I’ve seen,” he continued. “I’m gonna play it safe and just say, from what I have seen, I am more excited than I’ve been about anything involving Invincible.”
