NME’s latest stars of The Cover, KISS OF LIFE, have compiled an exclusive playlist to accompany the story’s launch – check it out below.
The K-pop girl group are on this week’s (December 2) edition of The Cover, a renewal of NME’s commitment to supporting emerging talent across the globe on a weekly basis. Every week, a rising artist will feature on The Cover – you can read the profile of KISS OF LIFE here, written by Rhian Daly and featuring photography by Ahn Hongje.
To accompany The Cover, KISS OF LIFE have put together an exclusive playlist, ‘Songs To Lose Yourself In’. Leader and rapper Julie’s selections include Kiana Lede’s ‘Deeper’, SZA’s ‘Shirt’ and Rihanna’s ‘Needed Me’, while singer Belle chose Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Dumb & Poetic’, Keshi’s ‘Dream’ and ‘On And On’ by Tyla. Rapper Natty picked Kehlani’s ‘Love Like’, ‘Push 2 Start’ by Tyla and Victoria Monet’s ‘Coastin’’, and youngest member Haneul added Dept’s ‘Winter’, Grass’ ‘It’s Me Grass’ and Yerin Baek’s ‘Square’. Listen to the full playlist on Spotify below and on Apple Music.
The Cover highlights the freeness in KISS OF LIFE’s attitude and approach to their music, with the four members all encouraged by their label, S2 Entertainment, to take part in the creative process since the group was formed. “Freedom could be interpreted in many different ways, but for us, not having any restrictions really gives us the opportunity to think beyond what we even could have thought [possible],” rapper Julie explains. “During the process, we find out more about ourselves as well. That really makes us grow stronger as a group and individually, too.”
Belle also discussed her work writing and producing for other artists, including LE SSERAFIM and VIVIZ, and how it compares to working with KISS OF LIFE. “When it comes to KISS OF LIFE songs, I’m always unsatisfied,” she shares. “I know how good our members are, so I always feel like I want to bring something better.”
