Pulp share euphoric new single ‘Got To Have Love’

Pulp have shared their new single ‘Got To Have Love’, taken from their upcoming comeback album ‘More’. Check it out below.

Described by frontman Jarvis Cocker as a “slightly hysterical song that tries to talk about love as I see it now,” the new single appears on their first studio LP in almost 24 years, announced last month with lead track ‘Spike Island’.

‘Got To Have Love’ was originally written in 1999, but was left unfinished until now. Speaking further about the euphoric track, Cocker said: “‘Love’ is a word I was unable to say until I was approaching 40. I listened to love songs all the time but couldn’t use the word in real life.

“The words to this song are me having a word with myself about this state of affairs. I gave myself a real talking-to. I have now learnt how to say it whilst keeping a straight face.”

You can watch a Cocker-directed video of the song, which uses footage of Northern soul dancers from Tony Palmer’s 1977 film Wigan Casino, below.

‘More’ will be released on June 6 via Rough Trade, and you can pre-order it here.

Unveiling ‘More’ in April – their newest record in 24 years – Pulp confirmed to BBC 6 Music that “the record has been done for a while” and the wait between records felt like “a lifetime”.

“[Playing live] was a big influence on it – that we played and the songs came back to life,” Cocker added. “We did play one new song towards the end of the tour and no one threw stuff at us or left to go to the bar. We chose to do it quickly… it wanted to come out.”

Pulp are also due to head off on a slew of dates this summer, including a UK arena tour and a North American tour. Along with two shows at London’s O2, the band will also head to Atlanta, Boston, Detroit and more, finishing with two shows at LA’s Hollywood Bowl with LCD Soundsystem.

Elsewhere, Pulp, IDLES and Fontaines D.C. are among dozens of artists to sign Heavenly Recordings’ letter defending Kneecap’s “freedom of expression”.
