Baby Reindeer has been one of the most talked-about shows of 2024, but what is series creator and star Richard Gadd’s next project? Read on for all the details.
Gadd wrote and starred in the Netflix hit, a series that claimed to tell the “true story” of Gadd’s own experiences being stalked by an older woman. He plays Donny Dunn, a struggling comedian who is befriended by a woman named Martha who transpires to be a malicious stalker.
The show spent almost a month at the top of Netflix’s viewership rankings and was recently named as the 10th most-watched series of all time on Netflix, racking up over 84 million views.
Following the series’ release, and its declaration of being a “true story”, many viewers tried to find out the real identities of the characters in the show. This led to Fiona Harvey, a woman claiming to be the inspiration behind Martha, coming forward and directly threatening legal action against Gadd.
Harvey also appeared on Piers Morgan Uncensored last month (May 9), her first television interview since the show aired. In it, Harvey denied many aspects of the show’s narrative, saying that she did not stalk Gadd, attack his girlfriend, destroy the bar he worked in or contact his parents. She also strongly denied being convicted of any charges, which is the fate that befalls Martha in the show.
More recently, a lawyer claimed that she too had been stalked by Harvey. Laura Wray, who employed Harvey for a brief period before she met Baby Reindeer creator Richard Gadd, said that she immediately recognised that Martha was based on Harvey when she watched the show. Harvey denied Wray’s allegations.
Previously, Gadd urged people to stop trying to work out the real-life identity of Martha in the show. He added: ”Please don’t speculate on who any of the real life people could be. That’s not the point of the show.”
What is Baby Reindeer creator Richard Gadd’s next project?
After being catapulted to international recognition by Baby Reindeer, all eyes are now on Gadd to see what his next move is.
The next chance for viewers to catch him will be in the new short film Truth Serum.
As reported by Variety, the piece has been picked up by short film streaming service Omeleto and will be available to watch from June 17.
Directed by Vika Evdokimenko, it is a comedy that follows a group of dinner party guests including Gadd’s character, who ingests the mysterious drug of the title.
“When ugly truths start to emerge, chaos reigns and threatens the relationships of old friends,” reads the official synopsis.
Gadd is also currently filming the drama Lions, a six-part series about two men over the course of a number of decades, which will be broadcast on the BBC.
