Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid is scheduled to have arthroscopic surgery on his left knee next week, a team official told ESPN’s Shams Charania on Wednesday.
Embiid will be re-evaluated in six weeks and is expected to make a full recovery, Charania reports.
Embiid reportedly consulted with specialists to develop the best treatment plan.
This will be the second procedure on his left knee in the last 14 months after he underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in February 2024.
The former MVP only appeared in 19 games this season and was shut down at the end of February due to lingering knee issues. He averaged 23.8 points on a career-low 44.4% field-goal percentage
Embiid was able to participate in the 2024 playoffs as well as the Olympics in Paris, where he won gold with Team USA. Knee swelling forced Embiid to miss the entirety of the Sixers’ preseason.
The Sixers are 13th in the East with a 23-53 record and are eliminated from playoff contention.
