Finding the champion within: how fitness coach Amirbakhman Olfatmanesh empowers his trainees to unlock their true potential

Strength training has become an integral part of life for millions of people striving not only for a better physique but also for personal achievement. According to Statista — one of the world’s leading statistical data platforms — strength training remains the most popular workout in the U.S., with 65% of men and 52% of women regularly participating. Today, fitness is more than just building muscle — it’s a powerful tool for overcoming personal limitations and unlocking inner potential. This belief is at the core of Amirbakhman Olfatmanesh’s philosophy. A fitness coach with over 22 years of experience, a three-time Ukrainian bodybuilding champion, European vice-champion, and an international judge certified by prestigious federations such as NAC, EBPF, and UBPF, Amirbakhman has dedicated his life to helping others achieve their best.

Born in Iran, Amirbakhman’s journey was far from easy. After immigrating to Ukraine, he faced numerous challenges, including overcoming language barriers, but his dedication to bodybuilding earned him recognition and success. He eventually became a coach and team manager for the Ukrainian national bodybuilding team, leading athletes to international success.

Today, Amirbakhman lives and works in Los Angeles, continuing to transform lives through fitness. His trainees — everyday people from all walks of life — achieve incredible transformations under his guidance, progressing from simple steps on a treadmill to competing in renowned endurance events like Spartan Race, HYROX, and major marathons. Amirbakhman’s journey is a testament to breaking boundaries, relentless forward motion, and a deep love for the transformative power of sport.

Where strength begins: The early steps of a future champion

Amirbakhman Olfatmanesh didn’t start his journey with fitness right away. His early passions were basketball and marathon running, where he discovered the thrill of competition and the satisfaction of pushing his limits. But everything changed when he first stepped into a gym, initially just to build muscle. A simple goal quickly evolved into a deeper connection with the sport. 

“I realized that training transforms not only your body but also your mindset,” Amirbakhman recalls.

At 17, he fully committed to bodybuilding, and by the age of 19, he was competing in his first tournament. However, the true turning point came when he started observing his bodybuilding coach. 

“I saw how he wasn’t just training people — he was changing their lives through healthy habits: exercise, nutrition, and rest. That’s when I knew I wanted to do the same — to help others become the best version of themselves,” he shares.

This realization set him on a path from passionate amateur to professional bodybuilder and dedicated coach. For Amirbakhman, fitness became more than just a sport — it became a calling to inspire and transform lives.

From athlete to national team manager

With over 80 bodybuilding competitions under his belt, including titles as a three-time Ukrainian bodybuilding champion and a European vice-champion, Amirbakhman Olfatmanesh built a solid foundation as both an athlete and a coach. His extensive experience on stage and natural ability to connect with people led the Ukrainian Bodybuilding Federation to appoint him as a team manager and international judge, representing Ukraine in major global competitions. His fluency in English and understanding of the sport’s nuances made him a strong fit for the role.

As a team manager, Amirbakhman was responsible for organizing logistics, coordinating with competition officials, and ensuring that athletes were fully prepared, both physically and mentally. 

“Managing a bodybuilding team isn’t just about paperwork or schedules. It’s about making sure the athletes are in the right condition, especially during the critical days before the competition,” he explains.

He paid close attention to his athletes’ needs, helping them manage their final preparations, including strict diets and hydration protocols. He often checked on them late at night before competitions to ensure their forms were on point and made last-minute adjustments when necessary.

Under his guidance, the Ukrainian team achieved several top placements at international competitions, including events like «Mr. & Mrs. Universe» in Germany and «Fit Parade» in Hungary. His hands-on approach and focus on the athletes’ well-being contributed directly to these successes, helping team members perform confidently on stage and secure high rankings.

Training philosophy

Amirbakhman Olfatmanesh has developed a unique 24/7 training methodology that focuses not only on what happens in the gym but also on how trainees live their lives outside of it. 

“The one hour you spend training is important, but the other 23 hours matter even more,” he often tells his clients. His approach emphasizes the importance of consistent habits — from nutrition to sleep and stress management — because, as he believes, “every second, every meal, every hour of sleep counts.”

He treats his coaching as a team effort, staying involved in his clients’ routines beyond their gym sessions. After each workout, trainees receive “homework” — meal plans, lifestyle guidelines, and regular check-ins. They send him photos of their meals and updates on their progress, allowing him to make adjustments and ensure they stay on track. This hands-on approach helps trainees build not just stronger bodies but also stronger minds.

One of Amirbakhman’s guiding principles is the saying, “How you do anything is how you do everything,” reflecting his belief that discipline in fitness translates into other areas of life. His method has led to remarkable transformations, with trainees not only achieving physical milestones but also experiencing significant mental growth — gaining confidence, focus, and a stronger sense of purpose.

Building Champions

After moving to Los Angeles, Amirbakhman Olfatmanesh applied the same hands-on coaching philosophy that had brought success in Ukraine to build a strong and motivated team in the U.S. He focused not only on improving his trainees’ fitness levels but also on encouraging them to push their boundaries by participating in real competitions. 

“For me, it’s not just about training in the gym — it’s about helping people discover what they’re truly capable of,” he shares.

Starting as a personal trainer, Amirbakhman gradually expanded into leading group boot camp sessions, which allowed him to work with more people and create a growing community of fitness enthusiasts. He encouraged his clients, many of whom had never competed before, to participate in challenging events like Spartan Race, HYROX, Tough Mudder, and DEKA. 

“At first, most of them didn’t believe they could do it. But once they trusted the process and saw what they were capable of, they kept coming back for more,” he recalls.

He didn’t just train people—he challenged them to redefine their potential. Many of his trainees had never considered competing, yet under his guidance, they found themselves stepping up to some of the most grueling and large-scale endurance events in the world. These competitions tested not only physical strength but also mental resilience, proving to his athletes that they were capable of far more than they had ever imagined.

Amirbakhman’s ability to inspire ordinary people to achieve extraordinary things stands as a testament to his philosophy: with the right guidance, support, and mindset, everyone has a champion within — they just need someone to help them see it.
