Maye ‘pumped’ about Patriots’ offseason acquisitions

Patriots quarterback Drake Maye feels great about New England’s moves to bolster its roster for the 2025 season.

“I’m pumped,” Maye said Thursday, according to Phil Perry of NBCS Boston. “A lot of new faces. … Found answers at a lot of different spots that hopefully we can plug and play.”

The Patriots, now coached by Mike Vrabel, focused on improving the supporting cast around Maye since posting a 4-13 record in 2024. New England added several playmakers on both sides of the ball, and its offense could have six new starters next season.

Vrabel’s outfit acquired receivers Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins as well as center Garrett Bradbury and offensive tackle Morgan Moses. The Patriots also used their first four draft picks on offensive players, including first-round offensive tackle Will Campbell and second-round running back TreVeyon Henderson.

Maye added that he’s particularly excited about Diggs’ arrival and that he used to play with the four-time Pro Bowl wideout in Madden.

“He’s been around,” Maye said of Diggs, who joined New England on a three-year, $63.5-million contract in March. “It’s gonna be cool to throw to a receiver who’s made plays like he has.”

Maye and Co. will also have a new offensive coordinator in 2025 after the Patriots reunited with Josh McDaniels.

“His stuff works,” Maye said of McDaniels, according to Carlos A. Lopez of “The Patriots Pulse Podcast.”

He added, “He coached the best to ever do it, so it’s pretty cool getting to watch old things Tom (Brady did) and see how he does it.”

The 2025 season is crucial for Maye’s development after the 22-year-old completed 66.6% of his passes for 2,276 yards and 15 touchdowns against 10 interceptions in 12 starts as a rookie. New England drafted him third overall last spring.
