Indianapolis Colts cornerback Isaiah Rodgers is among a group of players expected to receive season-long suspensions this week for alleged gambling, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The other players aren’t yet known.
It was reported earlier this month that Rodgers was under investigation for possible violations of the league’s gambling policy. The Colts cornerback later apologized, stating he takes “full responsibility” for his actions.
A sportsbook account was reportedly opened under the name of one of Rodgers’ associates, with roughly 100 bets placed on the account, including some on Colts games.
Rodgers and the upcoming bans are the latest crackdowns by the NFL on gambling violations. Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams was among five players punished in April for gambling violations. Williams received a six-game ban for gambling on college sports while in the team facility.
Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Calvin Ridley was suspended indefinitely in March 2022 for gambling, though he was reinstated earlier this year.
The NFL reinforced its gambling protocols on a conference call earlier this month, highlighting six key components. That included no betting on the NFL, no gambling at the team facility or hotel, and no joining a sportsbook during the season, among other rules.
