Wilson hopes to return to Steelers next season: It’s been ‘a blessing’

Russell Wilson’s first year with the Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t end the way he wanted, but he hopes to get another crack with the franchise.

After the Steelers were on the receiving end of a 28-14 playoff defeat Saturday, Wilson said postgame that he wants to be back with the Steelers for the 2025 season.

“It’s been truly a blessing in my life,” Wilson said. “It’s been one of the best years for me personally to be a Pittsburgh Steeler, and I obviously hope I’m here.”

The Steelers signed the 36-year-old quarterback to a one-year deal this past offseason, and he’s on track to become a free agent. He went 6-6 with the franchise this season (including playoffs) and registered 16 touchdowns to five interceptions. However, he lost his last five starts.

Wilson also rejected any talk of retiring and believes he has a lot left to offer.

“I love this game, man,” the veteran said. “I got so much more ball left in me. I’m excited about that part of it.”

In addition to Wilson, Steelers quarterback Justin Fields is also slated to become a free agent this offseason. Fields started the first six games of the season in place of an injured Wilson, compiling a 4-2 record.

Saturday’s loss marked the sixth straight postseason loss for Pittsburgh under head coach Mike Tomlin.
