Tiger Woods will stand alone as the new solo record holder with his 24th straight made cut at the Masters.
The five-time champion fired rounds of 73 and 72 to sit at 1-over for the tournament. His score was well inside the cut of 6-over, a result of windy conditions at Augusta National, among other factors.
Woods shared the record with Fred Couples and Gary Player entering the 2024 tournament and looked to be in tough with only 24 total holes of competition under his belt this calendar year. Things only got more difficult after a weather delay on Thursday forced him to play 23 total holes on Friday.
“Long day, it’s been a long day. It was a good fight. We did really well out there,” Woods said on the broadcast afterward. “Still right there in the ballgame with a great chance going into the weekend.”
The 48-year-old struggled in the morning, making two bogeys in his five closing holes of Round 1 to post 73. Woods only had 52 minutes of downtime before he was back on the first tee to begin Round 2, and looked to be laboring early after his walk appeared strong throughout Thursday’s action.
However, Woods would not be stopped from playing the weekend, making four birdies in his second round to offset four bogeys and get to the clubhouse with a round of even.
