Actor and comedian Adam Sandler will continue his ongoing collaboration with Netflix as he returns to stand-up for the first time since 2018’s Emmy-nominated 100% Fresh. Sandler’s new and exclusive comedy special was officially announced by Netflix earlier this week, and while it does not yet have a title, it has been revealed (via Deadline) that Uncut Gems director Josh Safdie will helm the project.
The untitled comedy special comes six years after the release of 100% Fresh, which saw Sandler take his comical musical musings out on the road. Going from comedy clubs to concert halls to one very unsuspecting subway station, 100% Fresh was met with much acclaim from both critics and audiences alike.
Sandler and Safdie, meanwhile, last joined forces on the Netflix crime thriller, Uncut Gems, which provided a central performance from Sandler that was so impressive that many were surprised when he was not given the nod for the Academy Award for Best Actor. Following Sandler as Howard Ratner, a Jewish-American jeweler and gambling addict who must retrieve an expensive gem he purchased in order to pay off his debts, Uncut Gems was also met with much acclaim.
All of which bodes well for Sandler, Safdie, and Netflix’s comedy special. Currently, there is no release date for the project, but both 100% Fresh and Uncut Gems can be streamed on Netflix now.

Sandler will next star in another Netflix outing, the science fiction drama, Spaceman. Adapted from the 2017 novel Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfař, Spaceman is directed by Chernobyl’s Johan Renck and follows Sandler as an astronaut who, six months into a solitary research mission to the edge of the solar system, realizes that the marriage he left behind might not be waiting for him when he returns to Earth. Desperate to fix things with his wife, Lenka, he is helped by a mysterious creature from the beginning of time he finds hiding in the bowels of his ship.
Starring Adam Sandler, Carey Mulligan, Kunal Nayyar, Lena Olin, Isabella Rossellini, and Paul Dano as the voice of Hanuš, an extraterrestrial spider, Spaceman promises to be a haunting depiction of loneliness with another stellar dramatic performance from the SNL star at its center.
Spaceman
is scheduled to debut at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival this month. The movie will then receive a limited theatrical release on February 23, 2024, before landing on
Netflix
on March 1, 2024.
