There’s something special about being part of a legendary cast and a show that can never be duplicated. Andy Samberg knows this all too well, as the actor led a star-studded cast on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The police procedural sitcom, which premiered on September 17, 2013, was critically acclaimed, producing 153 episodes through eight seasons. Its first season kicked off its success, garnering a Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy. At the same time, Samberg won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Television Series Musical or Comedy. Although the series ended in 2021, fans have been hopeful of a reunion or revival. During a conversation at San Diego Comic-Con, Andy revealed the heartfelt reason why it might not happen.
While at Comic-Con promoting the latest season of his series, Digman!, which saw a premiere delay, Andy Samberg spoke with Collider’s Steve Weintraub about the show’s legacy and success. There might not ever be another police procedural sitcom as popular as Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which is why fans hold those 153 episodes close to their hearts. Samberg said a reunion isn’t impossible, but the loss of Andre Braugher, who played the serious and stern Captain Raymond Holt, makes it difficult. Braugher meant a lot to Samberg and the show.

For 8 celebrated seasons, ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ became the ultimate comfort show for fans all across the world and delivered endless laughter.
I think the Andre [Braugher] factor makes it really difficult, certainly for me. I feel like he was such a huge part of what it was, like the base DNA of why the show works. Never say never. It’s a wonderful group of people. I don’t know. I love seeing them when I see them in real life, so I would love to work with everyone again in some capacity.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine follows a team of detectives headed by a very serious and intellectual Captain, Raymond Holt (Braugher). He was assigned as their new commanding officer in the pilot episode and sets the record straight about his expectations of the fictional 99th Precinct of the New York City Police Department. Samberg portrays Jake Peralta, a very skilled yet immature detective. He’s a Swiftie and his favorite film is Die Hard. Stephanie Beatriz plays Rosa Diaz, a no-nonsense and intimidating detective who keeps her personal life private. Former NFL player and actor Terry Crews was also a member of the cast, portraying family man Terry Jeffords, who started as a sergeant and progressed to lieutenant, eventually becoming Captain of the Nine-Nine.
Samberg’s ‘Digman!’ Delayed Season 2 Premiere
While Andy doesn’t know if there will ever be a Brooklyn Nine-Nine reunion, at least fans of the actor and comedian finally get a chance to watch the sophomore season of Digman! Its premiere date was delayed, along with the 27th season of South Park, to July 23rd, seemingly due to the Paramount-Skydance merger. Samberg created the animated series with Neil Campbell, and it follows a world where archaeologists are celebrities. During an interview with The New York Post, Samberg discussed what he loved most about his character, Rip Digman.
His hair trigger, and his spirals. It doesn’t take much to spin him out. And I feel like that is one of my favorite things comedically about him – but I’ll admit it, it’s relatable.
