WARNING: There are MAJOR SPOILERS in this story for Better Call Saul leading up to the midseason 6 finale episode, “Plan and Execution.”
Fans are worried about what will happen with standout character Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn) in the final episodes of Better Call Saul, but there’s certainly a good reason for that. Seven episodes into the 13-episode final season, Kim and Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) have finally brought to life their ultimate con. After weeks of meticulous planning and several close calls, the pair were successful in humiliating Howard Hamlin (Patrick Fabian) in front of his peers, resulting in the Sandpiper case finally settling.

Kim and Jimmy were not able to ride that high for very long. That night, they were paid a visit by a distraught Howard who had some harsh things to say about the two of them. Things escalated very quickly from there when cartel murderer Lalo Salamanca (Tony Dalton) also chose that evening to drop by, killing Howard and putting Kim and Jimmy in immediate grave danger. Fans will have to wait until July to see the result of the cliffhanger.
We know that Jimmy will make it out of this altercation alive so he can go on to have his dealings with Walter White (Bryan Cranston) in the future. However, Kim was never so much as directly mentioned in Breaking Bad, leaving her fate unknown. There has been a lot of speculation that the character will die in the final season of Better Call Saul to explain why she’s not still by Jimmy’s side in the Breaking Bad timeline.

Of course, a vicious murderer cornering Kim and Jimmy in their apartment will have the fans even more worried about what could happen. Series co-creator Peter Gould, speaking with Variety, doesn’t blame them. Gould says that viewers “should be” worried for Kim, teasing that it’s not going to be a happy ending that is waiting for her at the conclusion of Better Call Saul. While Gould can’t give any hints as to whether Kim lives or dies, does admit that the fans need to be worried.
“All I can say is that the greatest compliment we could have is that folks are worried about Kim Wexler… and you should be.”
Gould does state that the series is, at heart, the story of Jimmy McGill, and it’s teased that a satisfying conclusion to that story arc will come in the final episodes of Better Call Saul.
“Well, the focus is the same one that we started with, which is the story of Jimmy McGill — who was Slippin’ Jimmy, who was Saul Goodman, who becomes Gene Takovic — and what is to become of him. What does he deserve, and who is he really in his heart? Those are all questions that are still open on the show. The second half of the season is really surprising, and I think it’s some of the most powerful work we’ve ever done. I’m very excited for people to see it.”
Better Call Saul returns to AMC and AMC+ with new episodes on July 11, 2022.
