Things have gone far beyond child’s play in the new trailer for Chucky season three, which has now been unleashed courtesy of Syfy and USA Network. “After a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begins to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets,” the official synopsis for Chucky reads.
“Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies and allies from Chucky’s past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.” You can check out the trailer below:
Created by Don Mancini and based on the Child’s Play film franchise, the Chucky series serves as a sequel to the seventh outing in the movie series, Cult of Chucky. Following two critically acclaimed outings, Chucky was renewed for a third season back in January. Creator Don Mancini made a heartfelt statement at the time, thanking fans for their continued support for the show, and promising that season three will be the “scariest” so far.
“The cast and crew of Chucky would like to thank fans and critics alike for their overwhelming response to season two, which we’re delighted to announce has now spurred the official greenlight on season three,” Mancini said in his statement. “This news has made Chucky very happy. Thank Damballa for that because otherwise Chucky would have been frankly impossible to deal with. Many thanks also to our partners at SYFY, USA and UCP for helping us keep Chucky busy. See you in 2023 for what Chucky himself promises will be his scariest season ever”.
The return of Chucky on the small screen has been a huge success since it began back in 2021. The first season now stands an impressive 91% on the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes. “A bloody good time that benefits greatly from Brad Dourif’s return, Chucky may not play well for non-fans, but franchise devotees will find its absurd humor and creative horror very much intact on the small screen,” the critics consensus reads.
Season two has been just as well-received, and also holds a rating of 91%, with Collider’s Alyse Wax awarding the series a perfect ‘A+’ and saying, “Chucky Season 2 is already shaping up to be great — full of laugh, love, insanity, and plenty of blood.”
Chucky season three is scheduled to be released on October 4, with episodes airing Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on SYFY/USA, before streaming the next day on Peacock.
