Crunchyroll Nabs Streaming Rights to Mob Psycho 100 Season 3

Crunchyroll has acquired the streaming rights to the third season of Mob Psycho 100, set to premiere in October 2022. The distributor will simulcast the new season from Japan, subtitled and dubbed, in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide.

Mob Psycho 100 is adapted from the award-winning manga series of the same name, written and illustrated by ONE (One Punch Man) and published by Shogakukan from 2012 to 2017. The popular manga was then adapted into an anime series in 2016 by bones inc., a Japanese animated studio that has produced Soul Eater, My Hero Academia, and both the 2003 and 2009 adaptations of Fullmetal Alchemist. Mob Psycho 100’s first season ran from July 2016 to September 2016, and a second season followed it, airing from January 2019 to April 2019. The first two seasons of the anime were directed by Yuzuru Tachikawa, who now serves as executive director of the third season of Mob Psycho 100.

The third season is once again being produced by the animation studio bones inc. and will be directed by Takahiro Hasui, whose work as an episodic director can be seen on My Hero Academia Season 3, Mob Psycho 100 Season 2, SK8 the Infinity, and more. Also working on the anime is character designer Yoshimichi Kameda (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood), and music composer Kenji Kawai (Ghost in the Shell).

The official Mob Psycho 100 Season 3 synopsis reads:

Shigeo Kageyama, a.k.a. “Mob,” is a boy who has trouble expressing himself, but who happens to be a powerful esper. Mob is determined to live a normal life and keeps his ESP suppressed, but when his emotions surge to a level of 100%, something terrible happens to him! As he’s surrounded by false espers, evil spirits, and mysterious organizations, what will Mob think? What choices will he make?

Mob Psycho 100 Went Viral in 2020

On September 8, 2020, the Mob Psycho 100 anime series suddenly went viral in the US after Eric Trump, the second son of then-President Donald Trump, tweeted that he believed that Google was trying to manipulate Americans to associate mobs with anime. After trying to run a Google Search for “mob” and getting results that showed Mob’s face instead of a group of people, Trump sent out the now-famous viral tweet reading, “Google is once again trying to manipulate Americans. Type “mob” or “mobs” into google and watch what comes up. Do the same on any other search engine. #NothingToSeeHere.”
