The streaming experiment for Dancing with the Stars doesn’t seem to have worked out, as the show is already set to return to ABC for its next season. After spending 30 seasons on television, the show was moved to Disney+ last year where it streamed season 31. Deadline now reports that the show is heading back to ABC after spending one season on Disney+. As viewership numbers for the show weren’t released by the streamer, it’s hard to say how well it did in comparison to when it was on ABC. Notably, it was the first live show to debut on Disney+.
Season 32 will also be bringing in another major change. Tyra Banks has already announced that she is gone from the show and will not be back for the next season of Dancing with the Stars. It was later revealed that Julianne Hough was coming in to replace her, and she’ll be serving as the new co-host alongside Alfonso Ribeira. Banks had been hosting since 2020 when she replaced longtime co-hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews. Ribeiro joined Banks as co-host for the Disney+ season last year.
Banks has said that Hough is the “perfect” replacement for her. Hough is someone that’s adored by fans of the show, given how much time she has already spent on the program over the years. As a contestant, Hough won on two separate occasions. She would also serve as a judge between 2014 and 2017, though she returned in 2021 as a guest judge. All that was left was for her to serve as a host, and now that’s coming to be with the next season.
“The businesswoman in me sees how Julianne is great on multiple levels,” Banks told US Weekly. “She’s a professional dancer. She is the sister of Derek [Hough], a DWTS multi-champion, who is now a stellar judge. It’s going to be a family affair in that ballroom which people will love to watch. And she has so much personality and strong opinions backed by expertise. She’s a perfect choice! She’s gonna crush it!”

Judges for the new season will include Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli, and Derek Hough. Sadly, Len Goodman passed away just last month at the age of 78. Goodman had announced prior to his passing that he was retiring from the show. He said at the time of the announcement how much he would miss being a part of the program.
“I will miss the California sunshine, working with my fellow judges and the camaraderie with everyone on the show,” Goodman had said. “I’ll miss seeing the celebrities developing into dancers and I will miss being part of one of the most successful shows on TV.”
Celebrity contestants have not yet been announced for the next season. The Disney+ season from last year was won by influencer Charli D’Amelio and partner Mark Ballas. Some of the other names included for the season were Jason Lewis, Teresa Giudice, Joseph Baena, Jordin Sparks, Shangela, and Daniel Durant.
