Harley Quinn’s animated adventures have been given a boost from Ron Funches, the voice behind King Shark in the acclaimed series. Harley Quinn was originally renewed for a fifth season of R-rated fun early in 2023, but since then, the developing DCU of James Gunn has taken center stage and the status of projects like the Kaley Cuoco-led series has been lacking in updates.

One of the most popular offerings from Max’s slate of DC shows, the series has gained strong reviews and viewership, and its own spin-off, as well as plenty of praise for its voice cast, witty scripting and playful animation style. However, despite all of its plaudits, the status of the series’ return has been a little vague of late, but during a recent conversation with Screen Rant, Funches shared one of the first positive updates for several months. He said:
“I can tell you that, last I heard, things were looking positive. So, hopefully, we’ll have some official news soon. But I don’t think we’re done. I don’t think we’re done going to Harley’s just yet.”
Although this does not completely put fans’ minds at rest, it is one of the few updates to be given on the series by anyone, and in that respect, they will take any positive spin they can from it.
Harley Quinn Has Been Renewed, but That Doesn’t Guarantee Anything
Max
At one time, the renewal of a series meant that, no matter what, that series would be made and would air as planned. In the last several years there has been a strange shift in the world of television, with renewals being retracted, completed projects being scrapped, and several high-profile movies cancelled before their premiere due to a multitude of reasons, including several rounds of cost-cutting from studios such as Warner Bros. Discovery and Disney.
As it goes, Harley Quinn’s popularity – both in her own right as a character and as the series – is most likely strong enough for the renewal to stand, but currently there has been no indication of where or when ay new episodes will even head into production, let alone air.

In the meantime, star Cuoco previously said that she would love to continue voicing Harley as long as she is allowed to, and several other stars of the series, such as Lake Bell who voices Harley’s partner Poison Ivy, have been previously upbeat about bringing more of Harley and Ivy’s adventures to screens. When Harley Quinn does return to Max, it will arrive under the DC Elseworlds banner of projects that sit outside of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU continuity.
