Hawai’i’s Jason Antoon Mocks Series Cancelation After CBS Viewership Data Release

Summary

  • Jason Antoon mocks CBS cancelation of NCIS: Hawai’i on social media, shows evidence of show’s high rankings & viewership.
  • Fans left reeling over NCIS: Hawai’i cancelation, hope for renewal despite logistical challenges and unresolved cliffhanger.
  • CBS’s decision to cancel NCIS: Hawai’i attributed to cost, ratings, and programming objectives, but new spinoff titled NCIS: Tony & Ziva announced.

NCIS: Hawai’i star Jason Antoon couldn’t resist a jab at the CBS network’s decision to cancel the show. Debuting in 2021, the spinoff brought the NCIS franchise to new heights, anchored by Vanessa Lachey’s portrayal of Special Agent Jane Tennant. Despite doing well within the crime procedural niche, the series faced an unexpected halt in its journey, leaving fans perplexed and its stars disheartened.

Recently, Antoon, who portrayed cyber intelligence analyst Ernie Malik, took to social media (X) to mock the cancelation, citing CBS’ own viewership data as evidence of the show’s merit. His posts, shared across platforms, show the series’ climb in rankings throughout its tenure, from its overall viewership standing to its finale’s remarkable lift in ratings.

NCIS: Hawai’i cancelation has left the question about the possibility of CBS reversing its decision. The abrupt end to the Lachey-led series, coming hot on the heels of the closure of NCIS: Los Angeles and NCIS: New Orleans, left fans reeling, particularly given the unresolved cliffhanger that capped off its final season.

Networks have, on occasion, heeded the rallying cries of fans, reversing their decisions to axe fan-favorite shows. CBS itself set a precedent with SWAT, reinstating the series after impassioned pleas from its star, Shemar Moore. While Jason Antoon’s social media criticisms may not carry the same weight, they have certainly started conversations among both the cast and the show’s growing fanbase.

CBS’s Logistical Challenge with NCIS: Hawai’i Revival

Should CBS opt to revive NCIS: Hawai’i for a fourth season, logistical hurdles loom large. With NCIS season 22 holding its ground in the original timeslot, the network would need create some space for Tennant’s team. This could mean a waiting game for eager viewers, as scheduling adjustments and the introduction of NCIS: Origins, focusing on Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ origins story, take precedence.

While conventional wisdom suggests that cancelations typically caused by lackluster ratings, this case proves to be an exception. According to CBS executives, the termination stemmed from various factors including the show’s cost, its ratings compared to expenses, and the network’s strategic programming objectives.

Related Why NCIS: Hawai’i Was Canceled Faster Than Any Other Show in the Franchise So Far

The cancelation of NCIS: Hawai’i was as shocking to viewers as it was to the show’s cast and crew.

This move left fans puzzled, especially considering the success of the NCIS franchise. However, CBS isn’t abandoning the brand entirely; a new offshoot titled NCIS: Tony & Ziva is slated to debut on Paramount+. Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo recently revealed the official title of their much-anticipated spinoff series via their social media channels.

De Pablo herself disclosed the title in an endearing Instagram video, expressing her excitement about the forthcoming European escapades of the beloved characters. With promises of suspense, romance, and the scenic backdrop of Europe, the show is poised to deliver a cocktail of emotions that fans have come to adore.

NCIS: Tony & Ziva. […] It makes it really easy because the fans will know exactly what the show is. It’s about Tony and Ziva in Europe. […] I expect intrigue, romance, the background of Europe. Impossible situations that will make our life very complicated, but somehow a little something about love.
