In a heartfelt revelation, Joe Locke, known for his performance in Netflix’s Heartstopper, has lifted the veil on his character’s sexuality in the upcoming Disney+ series, Agatha All Along. The anticipation for the WandaVision spin-off is growing by the day, and Locke’s entry into the MCU through this role will only propel his career to new heights.
Speaking exclusively to Rolling Stone UK for their August/September issue, Locke candidly discussed the series’ tone and shed light on his character, so far only known as Teen. In his interview, he tantalizingly described Agatha All Along as “not what you would usually expect from a Marvel series.” Locke, otherwise, stayed tight-lipped about plot details, but expressed his excitement by saying,
“We gather a coven and a very unlikely group of women and me — which is my life in general — get on the Witches’ Road. Then magic, fun, and mystery prevails.”
Starring Kathryn Hahn as the titular Marvel witch, Agatha All Along reveals how Scarlet Witch’s enemy broke Wanda Maximoff’s binding spell at the end of WandaVision. Aubrey Plaza, Joe Locke, Emma Caulfield, and Ali Ahn join Hahn in the MCU Phase 5 spinoff series, released on Disney+.
Release Date September 18, 2024
Seasons 1
According to the trailer, Locke’s character, Teen, plays a pivotal role. He is the one who aids Agatha in breaking free from Wanda’s spell and persuades her to venture down the Witches’ Road. Her quest for power and his fate are clearly intertwined. In the show, Teen identifies as gay. When Locke elaborates on his character’s depiction, he mentions that “the way it’s explored in the show is very truthful and very positive.”
Locke Confirms Agatha All Along Will Be “Definitely Darker”
Joe Locke will be sharing screen space with Kathryn Hahn, who reprises her role as fan-favorite witch Agatha Harkness from WandaVision. Agatha All Along will also star Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Debra Jo Rupp, Patti LuPone, and Aubrey Plaza. They are all witches and members of Harkness’ coven and their roles add intrigue to the eerie atmosphere of the show.

The WandaVision spin-off starring Kathryn Hahn promises to be its own brand of fun but also really terrifying, according to Brad Winderbaum.
Speaking of the eerie atmosphere, Locke describes the tone of the show as “definitely darker” than previous Marvel projects. To quote him from Rolling Stone UK,
“In the same way WandaVision goes through all these different subgenres of comedies, Agatha does that in a different way… It’s definitely darker. It’s actually a little bit scary, which is good. I think it’s a great start for a new journey within the MCU of exploring different types of characters that aren’t like Iron Man or Captain America. It’s a new type of superhero, which I think is exciting.”
Overall, taking on such an incredible role in the spin-off right after the success of Heartstopper could give Locke global recognition and make him an important LGBTQ+ representative in mainstream media and the superhero genre.
