House M.D. became a huge hit between 2004 and 2012, with Hugh Laurie garnering plenty of accolades for his titular role as the genius doctor with a terrible bedside manner and plenty of personal issues to contend with. As a character used to coming out on top, when David Morse’s Detective Michael Tritter arrived in Season 3, House was faced with an adversary determined to bring him down.
While chatting to us about his upcoming movie Cabrini, Morse reminisced about going toe-to-toe with the great Dr. Gregory House. He said:
“My six episodes on House — that thing became another show that people watched all over the world. It was the most popular TV show in the world when I did my six episodes, and there was no character that ever stood up to Dr. House. I didn’t even want to do it, because I couldn’t stand the character. And my family and friends talked me into doing it. I’m so glad I did it, though. I got to play the character that stood up to him. It was really fun to do.”
David Morse Gained Critical Acclaim for His Role in House M.D.
Morse’s character was introduced following an altercation with House, which soon saw Tritter making it his personal goal to dismantle the doctor one piece at a time. Across his story arc, Tritter succeeded in taking apart House’s professional standing and allowing the show to take a deep dive into the often-questionable medical ethics of the medic, and his frequent lack of true accountability.
Morse himself, who had previously gained praise for roles in movies such as The Green Mile and would go on to appear in movies including The Hurt Locker and World War Z, was critically acclaimed for his performance and became one of the most memorable guest stars to have appeared in the entire series. The storyline became a pivotal point for Gregory House and his team, as loyalty and morality were questioned, and House was forced to confront the cost of his brilliance.
