Ever since Jurassic Park graced the big screen in 1993, the franchise has continued to grow with some major blockbuster additions over the years. This summer, it expands even further with the fourth Jurassic World movie and the seventh film in the overall Jurassic Park franchise. Written by David Koepp and directed by Gareth Edwards, the forthcoming Jurassic World Rebirth is meant to be a standalone sequel to 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion.
As such, viewers who haven’t seen any of the films in the franchise will be able to enjoy the latest installment without needing to watch any of its predecessors. However, that isn’t to say the newest film doesn’t connect to the others. It’s merely a brand-new story in a world many already know rather well. If the latest trailer for the movie is any indication, viewers should prepare themselves for a host of colossal dinosaurs and various death-defying adventures.
With a fresh new cast, including Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, and Rupert Friend, Jurassic World Rebirth promises to create a new era while acting as a soft reboot for the entire franchise. It certainly aims to chart its own course but still maintains a solid place alongside the other films. Even with a brand-new story, Jurassic World Rebirth is set to visit familiar territory that fans of the original Jurassic Park films will definitely enjoy. The film has a story all its own but will surely stay true to what fans have loved so much about the franchise throughout the previous decades.

What Is ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ About?
Universal Pictures
Set five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, Jurassic World Rebirth follows a covert and dangerous expedition with a special operative named Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson). In a world whose environment remains mostly inhospitable to dinosaurs, the prehistoric creatures now only reside in remote locations that resemble the tropical locales where they once existed. When Zora is recruited by pharmaceutical representative Martin Krebs (Rupert Friend) to collaborate with paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey), she brings in Duncan Kincaid (Mahershala Ali) to lead a team on a groundbreaking medical breakthrough.
For their top-secret mission, the group will have to infiltrate a forbidden island that has been abandoned for decades. Home to a long-forgotten research facility, it’s the last remaining island in existence for the franchise’s dinosaurs, and their DNA holds the key to revolutionary medication with the power to save numerous human lives. As such, Zora and her team have been tasked with extracting three different DNA samples from the largest prehistoric species on the island, including individual samples from the creatures who rule the land, the sea, and the sky.
Undoubtedly a dangerous mission, nothing unfolds as planned, and the team eventually finds themselves stranded alongside a group of civilians who have been marooned as well. To make matters worse, the island has become a home to various dinosaur mutations designated as failed experiments decades ago. However, throughout their years of complete isolation, the creatures have been able to thrive as they continue to rule the island.

Where Does ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Fit in the Franchise?
Chronologically, Jurassic World Rebirth picks up five years after the most recent film, Jurassic World Dominion, and its events. The movie unfolds in the same universe but brings in new characters to tell a different story that viewers have never seen before. Unlike other films, Zora and the others have no plans to set up theme parks showcasing the dangerous dinosaurs. Rather, this time, those at the center of the narrative have an arguably noble mission, or at least that’s how it seems so far. Audiences would be remiss to assume the trailer has told them everything about the film. There’s likely some sort of left turn awaiting them in the theaters.
While Jurassic World Rebirth can be viewed on its own, it still takes place within the larger Jurassic Park franchise. The setting of the latest installment particularly calls back to the original movies in a rather significant way. As the last remaining island with dinosaurs, the tropical locale Zora and the others venture to is actually the place where the original experiments for Jurassic Park, the theme park, were conducted.

Most ‘Jurassic Park’ Fans Missed the Dorkiest Joke in the Series
Sorry fans, T. rex was in all likelihood a lumbering animal with an anatomy more befitting an overgrown, land-borne vulture.
However, because many of the experiments were considered to be failures, they were abandoned for something better. As a result, the dinosaurs have mutated and thrived beyond what anyone could have ever dreamed. As such, those who dare to explore the unique island will certainly encounter the most dangerous creatures on the planet. As an expansion of the overall Jurassic Park franchise, Jurassic World Rebirth is meant to be enjoyed by everyone. While it’s definitely another sequel to the previous films, the latest installment aims to carve out its own path alongside its predecessors.
