Jensen Ackles Reveals Who Packs More Punch, Supernatural’s Demon Dean or The Boys’ Soldier Boy

Summary

  • Jensen Ackles believes
    Supernatural
‘s Demon Dean is more powerful due to lack of empathy, contrasting with the ‘heart of a kid’ of
    The Boys
    ‘ Soldier Boy.
  • Eric Kripke aims to reunite Ackles and Padalecki in
    The Boys
, bringing Winchester magic to the show.
  • Supernatural
alumni Nathan Mitchell and Jeffrey Dean Morgan also find roles in Kripke’s latest project.

Jensen Ackles recently gave his take on the hot debate of which of his characters holds more power, Supernatural’s Demon Dean or The Boys‘ Soldier Boy? Celebrated for his portrayal of Dean Winchester in Supernatural, has ventured into new territory with his role as Soldier Boy in The Boys.

At PurCon (via X), a fan convention held in Dusseldorf, Ackles discussed these transformations, particularly focusing on the fierce Demon Dean. According to Ackles, this version of Dean was markedly more powerful due to his complete lack of empathy and readiness to engage in combat without restraint. He contrasted this with his character in The Boys, Soldier Boy, who despite being a formidable superhero, retains a trace of innocence, which Ackles described as a “kid’s soul.”

Supernatural, a staple of The WB and later The CW, enthralled audiences for 15 seasons with its blend of horror, drama, and dark comedy. Throughout its historic run, the show presented its lead characters, brothers Dean and Sam Winchester, with a plethora of formidable foes—from mythic beasts to celestial beings.

The series wasn’t shy about evolving its characters, often placing them in scenarios that drastically altered their personas. Jensen Ackles’ Dean Winchester, notably, took on several darker alter egos, such as when he bore the Mark of Cain, transforming into Demon Dean—a version of himself devoid of conscience and driven by malevolent forces.

Eric Kripke Seeks Supernatural Reunion in The Boys with Ackles and Padalecki

Eric Kripke, the mind behind both the enduring hit Supernatural and the gritty superhero satire The Boys, is eager to bring a touch of Winchester magic to the latter. Kripke has expressed a strong desire to reunite Ackles with Jared Padalecki within the dark and twisted universe of The Boys.

Ackles, who seamlessly transitioned to The Boys portraying the morally ambiguous Soldier Boy, could potentially share the screen once again with Padalecki, hinting at a reunion for fans of their previous series. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Kripke revealed his goal and some behind-the-scenes efforts that could make this reunion possible.

“I feel like it would be a bummer to not have Jared on the show one way or another at this point, even if it’s just the one-episode thing. He’s been shooting Walker, but with that show wrapping up, maybe he’ll have some time to come in and play with us. I would love it. We have definitely talked about it.”

Related The Biggest Similarity Between The Boys and Supernatural Is Not What You Think Aside from creatures and lab-created “heroes,” there’s a less-than-obvious common thread connecting the two shows.

Though Padalecki’s appearance wouldn’t be in the imminent fourth season of The Boys, which is set to release this June, there is hope that he could join the cast in the already greenlit fifth season. Ackles and Padalecki’s dynamic on Supernatural was a significant part of the show’s success, and a reunion could bring a familiar chemistry to the new, albeit darker, context.

The Boys
and
Supernatural
are currently available to stream on Prime Video.

Furthermore, Kripke’s penchant for integrating Supernatural alumni into The Boys extends beyond Ackles. Nathan Mitchell and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, both of whom had roles in Supernatural, have found their places within Kripke’s latest project. Mitchell, known for his part as the stoic Black Noir, and Morgan, set to debut in Season 4 as the enigmatic Joe Kessler, highlight Kripke’s loyalty to his actors and his skill in reimagining them in new roles.
