After years of faltering and failing, the Predator franchise is finally going from strength to strength following the release of this year’s animated anthology movie, Predator: Killer of Killers. But, director Dan Trachtenberg first began to revitalize the beloved action sci-fi series with 2022’s Prey, and while we are still awaiting a sequel, Killer of Killers just gave us our biggest hint yet that, not only will Prey 2 happen, but that it will bring back one of the franchise’s best heroes.
Prey was Dan Trachtenberg’s first foray into the world of the Predator. The sci-fi action outing dropped audiences in the Northern Great Plains of 1719, introducing Amber Midthunder as Naru, a young Comanche warrior who must protect her tribe from one of the alien hunters. Met with critical acclaim, Prey 2 is something that fans of the franchise are now desperate to see, and the end of Predator: Killer of Killers reveals not only the fate of Naru, but teases what’s to come for the hero in a sequel.

The Predator franchise is now more intriguing than ever thanks to directors Dan Trachtenberg and Joshua Wassung and their animated anthology outing, Predator: Killer of Killers. After watching the dreaded Yautja do battle with a Viking, a samurai, and a Naval fighter pilot, the final moments of Killer of Killers seemingly confirm that a sought-after sequel in the series is happening…but will find the lead action hero in a very different situation this time around.
‘Predator: Killer of Killers’ Reveals the Fate of ‘Prey’ Hero, Naru

Taking inspiration from the final moments of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Killer of Killers reveals what happens to those who manage to survive and defeat a Yautja. Kept as trophies in suspended animation, the animated outing reveals a giant room filled with survivors, with one of them being none other than Naru.
What this means for the Comanche warrior is open to speculation, but it has been reported that, alongside the upcoming Predator: Badlands, Prey 2 is now in the works. Bringing Naru back would be a first for the franchise, which has followed a new set of characters with each installment. Being put into stasis and taken into space also makes it likely that Naru will either find herself on an alien world and fighting to survive once again, or could be dropped back on Earth in a completely different time period.
In either case, the potential for Prey 2 is vast, with the reveal at the end of Killer of Killers certainly living up to Trachtenberg’s desire to do something entirely unexpected and “cool” should Prey 2 get the greenlight. As the filmmaker previously teased…
“For everyone who’s been asking me about sequels, it’s like, that is the thing, is that oftentimes someone does a cool thing and the sequel is just….and then the next part, and then it’s like, oh, well then that’s just following up the cool. That isn’t what that thing was. And so yes, in thinking about what sequels could be, the primary conversation was and always will be, what we can do that is also special, that hasn’t happened yet. Not just for the Predator franchise, but for this kind of genre in particular. Can we still be doing something cool?”
