King of the Hill Revival Possible, Producer Says ‘Hot Negotiations’ Are Happening

King of the Hill is closer than ever to getting a revival according to Brent Forrester, who served as head writer and executive producer of the popular animated series. Originally, King of the Hill ran for 13 seasons on Fox between 1997 and 2009. With so many other shows getting sequels and reboots, such as Mike Judge’s other famous cartoon series Beavis and Butt-head, many fans have been hoping to see Hank Hill and his family get a revival of their own.

Now, the odds are looking much better towards King of the Hill returning. In a recent “Ask Me Anything” Q&A session with fans on Reddit, Brent Forrester was asked by some of these fans if there would be a resurrection of the beloved series in the age of reboots, and here’s what the writer-producer had to say.

“I am sure [series creators] Greg Daniels and Mike Judge will murder me for sharing this but… HELL YES. They are in hot negotiations to bring back King of the Hill. The Trump administration made it suddenly very relevant again. The characters have all aged 15 years. The project is sooooo good. Okay I’ve said too much :).”

One of the interesting takeaways from Forrester’s response is that he notes that the characters are now 15 years older. Does this mean Bobby Hill will be 27 years old in the revival, which is set in the present day after the Trump administration? Reviving the series with aged versions of the characters is atypical for an animated series reboot, but these potential changes would also help the writers avoid the risk of retreading the same material from the original show’s 13-season run.

Moving the story ahead 15 years would also provide an easy way to write Luanne and Lucky out of the series. After voicing Luanne in all 13 seasons of the show, Brittany Murphy passed away in 2009, just months after the King of the Hill series finale. Tom Petty, who voiced Luanne’s husband Lucky, also died in 2017. As fans would have a hard time accepting new actors in the roles, it may be better to retire the characters, and their absence would be easier to explain if the revival were set in a different time period.

King of the Hill also featured the voice talents of co-creator Mike Judge as Hank Hill, Kathy Najimy as Peggy Hill, Pamela Adlon as Bobby Hill, Johnny Hardwick as Dale Gribble, Stephen Root as Bill Dauterive, Lauren Tom as Connie, and Toby Huss as Kahn. Murphy also shared the role of Bobby’s best friend Joseph with Breckin Meyer and Judge also voiced Hank’s pal Boomhauer.

Time will tell on King of the Hill, but Judge’s other animated series Beavis and Butt-head has already been picked up for a 2-season reboot at Comedy Central. It has also been announced that the dimwitted duo will star in their next original movie for Paramount+. As Judge has said in the past that he’d be open to rebooting King of the Hill, it’s not surprising to see that there are ongoing discussions to actually make that happen next. This information comes to us from Reddit.
