Legends of the Hidden Temple Reboot Brings Back Dee Bradley Baker as Olmec’s Voice

Dee Bradley Baker will return to voice Olmec the giant talking stone head in The CW’s Legends of the Hidden Temple reboot. Originally, Legends of the Hidden Temple ran on Nickelodeon for three seasons between 1993-1995. The CW has since announced their plans to reboot the series with older participants with a new incarnation of the series set to premiere in October.

On the original Nickelodeon version, a giant talking stone head named Olmec was present to tell players of the game about the rules of the various challenges. He was voiced by Dee Bradley Baker, and as his voice for the character was so unique, it just wouldn’t have been the same if anyone else was voicing Olmec. Fortunately, it was reported on Wednesday that Baker is officially on board to return as the stone head.

“When we asked Dee Bradley Baker to return as the one and only Olmec – our giant talking stone head, and he said, ‘Let’s Rock,’ that was all I had to hear…Olmec lives,” said executive producer Scott Stone.

The biggest difference with the Legends of the Hidden Temple reboot is that it will feature adult contestants rather than children. This allows for more intense challenges, but elements of the show will still be familiar to fans. Challenges from the original series are back including the Moat Crossings, The Steps of Knowledge, and the Temple Run. The original team names are also back, meaning we’ll be seeing the returns of the Purple Parrots, Blue Barracudas, Orange Iguanas, Red Jaguars, Silver Snakes, and Green Monkeys.

In each episode, participants will answer trivia questions and complete various physical challenges. Only one team will be permitted to enter Olmec’s Temple for the opportunity to acquire a lost treasure while avoiding the dreaded Temple Guards. As with the original show, Olmec is expected to deliver announcements, explain the challenges, and ask tiebreaker questions. Cristela Alonzo will serve as the host of the reboot, replacing original host Kirk Fogg. Her role as host was just recently confirmed as well and she comes into the reboot as a fan of the original.

“Having grown up on 90’s pop culture and actually being a fan of the original L egends of the Hidden Temple, I am thrilled to be hosting the new updated version of the show,” Alonzo said of her involvement in the reboot. “The biggest challenge for me on this show will be trying to simultaneously host it and contain my geeked-out excitement at the same time.”

Based on the original game show created by David G. Stanley, Scott A. Stone, and Stephen R. Brown, Legends of the Hidden Temple is produced by Stone & Company Entertainment and Nickelodeon. Scott A. Stone executive produces with Marcus Fox.

Legends of the Hidden Temple is scheduled to premiere on Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW. It will be interesting to see if this more mature version of the classic children’s competition show will be as big of a success, but at the very least, it will be fun to see Olmec again. This comes to us from Deadline.
