They’re loud, they’re proud, and they’re back! Over the weekend, the official Proud Family: Louder and Prouder Twitter account released the trailer for the highly anticipated season 2! The trailer can be viewed below.
From what we see in the trailer, the second season promises to bring on all that we love about the first season and original Proud Family! Plenty of laughs, plenty of love, and even a few hard topics tackled. We even get a nice callback to a detail that was first introduced in the original series with LaCienega using her unusually large feet to pull off a sick gymnastics move!
The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder is a continuation of the Disney Channel original series, The Proud Family. The show follows Penny Proud, a spunky sixteen year old and her family. We follow Penny and her friends as they try to navigate the wild world of being a teenager, which usually involves coming to family for help. The original cast has returned, but we’re introduced to four new faces. Maya, KG, and their two dads move into the neighborhood in the first season and find themselves integrated into the friend group.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
The show was a critical and audience darling, and currently holds a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans loved the return of their favorite family, with all the same love and humor as before. Meanwhile, critics also enjoyed the ways in which the show has adapted for a new era, particularly with topics such as gay families and activism.
Even Louder and Even Prouder
The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder
The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder ended its first season on a cliffhanger, where we learned where fan favorite Suga Mama came from and why she left. It turns out her side of the family (which includes Oscar and Uncle Bobby) are from Oklahoma! The family heads out to meet Suga Mama’s Pa (Glynn Turman) and her brothers, on the family ranch. While the rest of the family blend in, Suga Mama is having a harder time. It becomes known that Suga Mama’s family troubles stem from Pa’s blatant sexism (coming to a head with a rodeo competition). The episode ends with her and Puff leaving the ranch, ending the episode. In the trailer for season 2, we get a glimpse of what’s to come next as Suga Mama and Oscar find themselves in a rodeo setting. Looks like that championship will come to be!
Another notable part of the trailer involves Penny and her friends at a rally or strike, which then cuts to a shot of Penny, Maya, and Zoey surrounded by police in riot gear. This will obviously be an episode focusing on police brutality and racism. This won’t be the only time that The Proud Family tackles a heavy topic like this, as the original series involved an episode where Penny wakes up in the 1950’s and learns about the importance of Black History. The episode featured Penny using the famous “I Have a Dream” speech, which was used with permission from the estate of Martin Luther King Jr.
Whether you tune in for the laughs, the love, or the topics, The Proud Family has a little something for all kinds of audiences. Louder and Prouder brings more of all of those elements, so that fans young and old can come together with joy. Those happy moments will be coming to Disney+ February 2023!
