Matlock has cracked the code on what it means to leave an audience wanting more. After this episode’s big twist reveal, we are foaming at the mouth to get to the juicy drama of the next one.
Somehow, the show sets us up to go in expecting nothing from the story but a good time. Then, out of nowhere, the series will drop a massive bomb that we absolutely should have seen coming.
Since the start of Matlock, the show has made it a staple to keep viewers on their toes by consistently delivering gasp-worthy twists. However, the series is like a ninja with how it can sneak-attack in tiny clues here and there.

For instance, it wasn’t until “Game Face” that I realized all of Matty’s stories about her “dead husband” were actually stories about Bitsy’s ex-husband, Burt.
This one is on me, though. The clues were staring me right in the face, and I was like a deer caught in headlights — much like that Slammed marketing rep during the focus group footage in this episode.
After Three Matlock Episodes, Olympia and Her Team Finally Delivered A “Slammed” Dunk in the Court Room
Matlock has certainly seen its fair share of courtroom slam dunks, as well as the occasional loss from time to time. Remember Matlock Season 1 Episode 4 when Senior pulled the double-handed “Texas Two-Step?”
So, as audience members, we have come to appreciate it when Olympia and her team kill it in the courtroom. However, this case was on another level of stress.
Not only did the case against Slammed take three episodes, going all the way back to Matlock Season 1 Episode 13, but it even brought in a familiar face from the small and big screens.

If you read the Matlock Season 1 Episode 14 review, you know I was excited to see the “Scream Queen,” Marley Shelton (Rise) herself.
Granted, she was, once again, only in for a handful of minutes, but she delivered a pretty stirring performance. Sadly, we likely won’t see her character again unless by some stroke of genius from the Matlock writers.
After Olympia’s rock-star performance in this case, it’s safe to say Slammed is off the fictitious shelves. However, the Jacobson Moore lawyer’s problems are far from over.
There’s A Way Everyone Can Get What They Want as Long as the Matlock Writers Are Willing to See Reason
Even though Matty thinks the Welbrexa culprit is Olympia, Miss Lawrence has her own personal issues. For one, there’s a good chance she’s about to make partner at a bad time.
After winning the Slammed case, Olympia’s promotion is as good as in the bag, but is that really something we should hope for with Matty’s mission underway?
(Robert Voets/CBS)
I’ve given it careful thought and figured out how the ending can work in everyone’s favor. This way, Matty can also stay at Jacobson Moore.
First, it has to come to light that Senior (Beau Bridges) was behind the Welbrexa cover-up. Even if his hands were not the ones to remove the documents, he needs to be the one to take the fall.
Then, Julian has to take over Senior’s position at Jacobson Moore. Whether that means he becomes the head of the firm or just fills a seat on the board, Julian needs to ascend.
That way, Olympia (Skye P. Marshall) can make partner, and all of her hard work won’t be for nothing.
Lastly, as long as Matty’s cover isn’t blown, she can still work at Jacobson Moore, knowing she got justice for her daughter, Ellie.
As you can see, it’s airtight plotting that couldn’t possibly have any holes poked into it. If only things were as cut and dry for Julian and Olympia’s marriage.

Can someone please explain why those two can’t work their relationship out? They are excellent co-parents and co-workers, yet they can’t make the sparks fly again?
Julian (Jason Ritter) confessed to Olympia because he wanted to restart things on a clean slate. The revelation should have brought them closer together.
You’re telling me those two crazy kids can’t make it work, but two complete opposites like Simone and Billy can? No wonder Sarah is a little crazier than usual.
This Dynamic Duo on Matlock Has Finally Reached a Point in the Story Where They No Longer Feel Like Afterthoughts
Right away, it has to be said that Billy and Sarah have come such a long way since Matlock Season 1 Episode 1, and I’m not just talking about their character development.
In the beginning, Billy and Sarah were really more of an afterthought. That was totally understandable. Matlock was getting the story off the ground and needed to focus on the key players.
(Robert Voets/CBS)
However, since then, the dynamic duo has gained more and more screen time and has become integral to the show.
If nothing else, Sarah helps to break up the epic highs and lows that come with every new Matlock episode.
That’s why this new workplace conspiracy is the perfect arc for Miss Franklin (Leah Lewis). It combines her two strengths of investigation and pettiness in the most fun way.
At this point, Sarah is practically like, “Kira, who?” And I don’t blame her. Sarah already has her plate full with Olympia’s mentorship and now this office conspiracy that Mrs. B has pulled her into.
Speaking of Mrs. B …
We’re Coming Up on the Finish Line, and It’s Anyone’s Bet Who the Welbrexa Culprit Is, But At Least Matty Finally Has a Leg-Up
(Michael Yarish/CBS)
Did anyone else hit the ceiling when it was revealed that Mrs. B was the one who started Matty’s entire mission? Honestly, the show didn’t even give us time to think about it.
To be fair, Matlock has already made too many steps backward just to add the task of wondering who the Redditor was to an already bloated mission.
It was interesting that Mrs. B kept popping up here and there throughout Matlock Season 1. At least we can cross her off the suspect list. Don’t act like you didn’t have everyone at the office on your own mystery board.
The question now is, “What will Matty do with this new piece of information?” Is she going to flat-out confront Mrs. B? It wouldn’t be great if Matty left her sitting on that park bench without any follow-up.
Or Matty may try to breadcrumb Mrs. B into revealing herself at Jacobson Moore now that Matlock knows who to keep an eye on.
In addition to all that, there’s the question of how willing Mrs. B will be to help Matty.
(Robert Voets/CBS)
The character isn’t exactly known for being trustworthy, and she’s kept pretty quiet about the Welbrexa case despite being the technical whistleblower.
We’re in the last quarter of CBS‘s Matlock Season 1, and the clues are about to start dropping if they haven’t already.
So, place your bets now. My money is still on Shae or even Senior’s assistant Stuart as the Welbrexa culprit.
Who would you bet the real culprit is?
Do you think Matty will keep working at Jacobson Moore after she finds out who was responsible for the cover-up?
