Pop culture’s most popular dimwits are coming back with an all-new series, and while it will be familiar in many ways, the new Beavis and Butt-Head, dubbed Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head, will also come with some differences to make it unique. This summer, the new movie Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe had its premiere on Paramount+, signifying the return of the giggling, GWAR-loving teenagers. That will be followed by the premiere of Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head on Aug. 4, 2022.
Representing the animated series at San Diego Comic-Con, creator Mike Judge spoke with Collider about what’s to come in the revival. Keeping up with the times, Judge reveals how Beavis and Butt-Head now weigh in on viral videos the same way they would with music videos in the original series (and, yes, they’ll still be watching those too). Judge also confirms that there will be multiple episodes set in the future where Beavis and Butt-Head are middle-aged.
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
“I think we’ve stayed pretty true to who the characters are, but there’s a lot of fun stuff. They watch YouTube videos and TikTok videos now, which has been a lot of fun to do. We have episodes where they’re middle-aged. Butt-Head is just this big old useless guy. They’re on all kinds of government assistance. They’re a burden on society, but it’s been very fun to do. And the old Beavis and Butt-Head watch music videos too.”
Judge also teased what’s to come in upcoming episodes, such as one episode that doesn’t have Butt-Head at all that sees Beavis connecting with his longtime idol, fire, which manifests into a speaking spirit giving the headbanging teen different commands to carry out.
“We’ve got one episode that Butt-Head is not even in, where Beavis sees that there is a fire, a dumpster fire, and it starts talking to him and giving him commands. We have one where they’re at a mall. They have these, they think they’re virtual reality glasses, they’re just sunglasses. And they think the mall is one game, and they try to kill themselves to get back to the beginning.”

Beavis and Butt-Head Are Back, and Dumber Than Ever
Paramount
Fans who miss the classic episodes of Beavis and Butt-Head will still be able to enjoy those as well. Paramount+ has been continuously rolling out episodes from the previous seasons, and better yet, they’re coming with the commentary on the original music videos. In his Collider interview, Mike Judge explained how he is more proud of the music video commentary than anything else but copyright issues have always made it hard to get those released to the public in a legal way outside of watching them on MTV.
“A lot of the stuff I’m most proud of is the commentary on the music videos. I mean, there’s some at the beginning where Beavis and Butt-Head are hardly talking at all. Because I thought, at the start of it, I thought, ‘Oh, people watch MTV because they want to watch the videos. They’re not going to want these guys talking over the whole thing.’ Which I was wrong about. The thing is that those contracts were just for MTV.”
Mike Judge’s Beavis and Butt-Head premieres on Aug. 4 on Paramount+.
