The series, which is a spin-off from Ritchie’s 2019 film of the same name, has kept audiences hooked with its engaging storyline and stellar cast. Netflix executives are hopeful that Ritchie can reunite the original cast, including Theo James, Kaya Scodelario, Ray Winstone, Daniel Ings, and former footballer Vinnie Jones, for the sequel.

However, a TV insider (via The Sun) revealed that there are challenges ahead. “It’s going to be quite a challenge getting the same actors back together, but Netflix chiefs are keen for a sequel,” the source said. “Another hurdle will be securing Guy for the series as he already has several movie projects in the pipeline this year. But the success of series one has already convinced them there’s huge potential for a follow-up.”

The Gentlemen marks another successful collaboration between Ritchie and Jones, who previously worked together on Ritchie’s debut film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels in 1998 and the follow-up Snatch in 2000. Fans of the director’s work are eagerly awaiting official confirmation of the sequel and the return of the beloved characters to the small screen.

Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen Universe

Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen series and film share a distinct connecting point: marijuana. The story revolves around a lucrative grow operation for the substance, which becomes the target of competitors seeking to take control. In the film, private detective Fletcher, played by Hugh Grant, attempts to blackmail cannabis kingpin Mickey Pearson’s right-hand man, Raymond Smith, portrayed by Charlie Hunnam. However, Fletcher’s plans ultimately backfire, leading to a series of confrontations with Russian gangsters.

The narrative is filled with twists and turns, including the involvement of Colin Farrell’s character, Coach, who plays a pivotal role in thwarting the gangsters’ plans. Despite considering retirement, Mickey, played by Matthew McConaughey, finds himself reinvigorated and unable to leave his empire behind.

The connection between the series and film extends beyond the marijuana theme. In the first episode of the series, a notable scene involves a refrigerator, reminiscent of a moment involving Jeremy Strong’s character, Matthew, in the film. Additionally, the series mentions one of the film’s marijuana strains, “White Widow Super Cheese,” further linking the two projects.

Related The Gentlemen Is Connected to RocknRolla in Surprising (and Troubling) Ways Netflix’s The Gentlemen has obvious origins in director Guy Ritchie’s movie of the same name. But what if another film of his laid the foundation?

While there are no shared cast members or role reprisals, the presence of these elements suggests that the series may exist in the same universe as the 2019 film. However, the exact relationship between the two remains open to interpretation. Fans of Guy Ritchie’s work can enjoy the similarities and differences between the series and film, each offering a unique take on the crime and drama genre.
