New Futurama Clip Finds the Crew Embarking on a Journey in Nibbler’s Litter Box

Episode four of Futurama continues the incredibly successful new season of the rebooted sci-fi comedy, and we have an exclusive clip. Coming courtesy of Hulu, this exclusive clip is titled “Life Finds A Way” and sees the crew embarking on a dangerous journey into the desert world contained within Nibbler’s litter box in the upcoming fourth episode, Parasites Regained. After Fry can’t make it to a date with Leela, she takes her pet Nibbler instead. Nibbler’s an ancient alien with great wisdom — though living pretty much like a pet cat. The pair go to see an alien-language film with subtitles. After a great time, they bond over their shared interest in the intellectual subject matter, with Nibbler going from being a pet to being Leela’s good friend.

But then Nibbler falls ill. He’s suddenly getting confused and having trouble with large words. They take him to the vet, and it turns out he has worms. If left untreated, the worms will cause dementia, and the total loss of his brilliant mind. Nibbler, and Leela, are terrified. The parasites have infested his litter box, which is filled with his precious ancestral sand. The only hope is to shrink the crew down to microscopic size and send them in to battle the worms (in a nod to the classic 1966 film Fantastic Voyage). At that scale, it’s an epic desert adventure in a Dune-like desert world, inhabited by monster worms and other strange creatures.

Parasites Regained Brings Back the Worms From Season 3

The worms turn out to be the same group previously encountered in an earlier episode of Futurama from season three, Parasites Lost. (If you missed it, the titles reference John Milton’s literary classic, and maybe the documentary film trilogy about wrongful imprisonment). A life-and-death battle breaks out, but it’s interrupted when ailing Nibbler himself shrinks down and enters the scene like a messiah, calling for peace.

With his great wisdom, he has come to see the beauty of this world in the litter box… how everything depends on everything else in a beautiful web of life. He decides to give up his consciousness, so that these creatures can live on. He is at peace with his decision. But Leela is devastated. She is determined to find a way to save Nibbler’s great mind, even if it means undergoing a very dangerous psychedelic experience in the litter box world.

After a brief 10-year hiatus, Futurama has been triumphantly revived from the cryogenic tube, with its full original cast, including John DiMaggio, Billy West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, and David Herman, and satirical spirit intact. The 10 all-new episodes of season 11 have something for everyone. New viewers will be able to pick up the series from here, while long-time fans will recognize payoffs to decades-long mysteries – including developments in the epic love story of Fry and Leela, the secret history of evil Robot Santa, and the whereabouts of Kif and Amy’s tadpoles.

The fourth episode of Futurama season 11, Parasites Regained, is due to land on Hulu on Monday, August 14, with new episodes weekly.
