Oscar Isaac Reveals He Tried to Drop First MCU F-Word in Moon Knight

Moon Knight has brought something different to the MCU but as Oscar Isaac reveals, he couldn’t insert the F-word into a scene despite his best effort.

It is well known that you have to go some way to manage to drop an F-bomb in a Disney+ TV series. Despite Oscar Isaac trying his hardest to be the first person to utter the profanity in the MCU, he recently revealed how his personal quest while filming Moon Knight ultimately failed. In the hit new Marvel series, Isaac plays the dual roles of tough mercenary Marc Spector and the less than heroic Steven Grant, both of whom have an alter-ego that draws supernatural powers from the Egyptian moon god Khonshu.

While speaking to Screen Rant, Isaac confessed that he tried his hardest to drop an F-bomb in the series during a scene in which Marc and Steven confront each other. While acting out the scene with his brother, who doubles for Isaac in the series, he decided that he was going to base it on a popular meme involving a small English boy who gets punched in the face while performing a rap and shouts a swear word in the moment. Isaac said that he did many takes, with many of them including the curse, but in the end, they decided not to use it. He said:

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“My brother and I, there’s this meme that we think is really, really funny. It’s this English kid that’s got a tie on his head. He’s rapping, and then just a punch comes out of nowhere and punches him and he goes, “Oh, f**k, I can’t believe you’ve done this!” A lot of people know what I’m talking about. And so I was like, “We’ve got to find an opportunity to do that. And this seemed like the perfect time to do it. So I did it. I did a lot of takes where I actually say, “Oh, f**k” and I thought, in Disney, because it’s TV or whatever, that you get one F-bomb. But ultimately, not even one. We don’t even get the one, so we had to change it. But basically, that is just my homage to that.”

Since the launch of Disney+, Marvel Studios has not played it safe with their choice of original series on the platform. From WandaVision’s unique sitcom opening, which eventually gave way to a more regular MCU finale, through Loki’s time-bending reality and now the dark and brutal world of Moon Knight, Marvel’s expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has not put a step wrong so far. Moon Knight was another risk, with a darker tone, complex storyline and fractured narrative, but fans and critics just can’t get enough.

While there is plenty of violence to be found in the MCU, there has been the suggestion of an F-bomb previously, with Samuel L. Jackson – who else – coming close in the post credit scene of Avengers: Infinity War, but was cut off by his dusting, and then Tom Holland almost managed it as well when having his identity revealed by Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Again though, while the “f” most certainly appeared, the rest of the word went unsaid. However, with Deadpool now heading to the MCU and retaining his R-rating, we probably already know exactly where that first one will drop.
