Another Golden Globes season is upon us with its 82nd Annual ceremony, and with it comes many surprises in the form of nominations and snubs. There will certainly be reasons for some fans to get up in arms about specific choices (how did House of the Dragon not get nominated for its second season?). However, celebrating the victories of those who deserve or have never been considered for recognition is also just as important.
For those following the buzz around The Last Showgirl, Pamela Anderson’s nomination as Best Actress in a Drama is a pleasant surprise. Yet, for those not following the actor’s recent resurgence, seeing her name among Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Tilda Swinton, Fernanda Torres, and Kate Winslet may seem baffling. This is particularly true considering the actor’s not-so-amazing history in Hollywood as one-dimensional throughout her career.

Pamela Anderson From the Beach to the Golden Globes
Pamela Anderson became synonymous with “hot beach babes” (an apt term, but also best left in the ’90s for the period that Bay Watch ran on TV). This led to many satirizing her involvement in Bay Watch in the sensational drama and not taking her seriously as an actor. Her other roles around this period came from direct-to-video action films that, while entertaining, did little to further her career.

“I get chills even thinking about it.”
Anderson would see some cult success when she was cast in shows like Barb Wire and Stripperella, but none of these pushed her image forward, and the majority of her roles came from guest appearances as herself. Barb Wire was nominated for multiple Razzies in 1997, earning the award for Worst New Star. While she would see some success in her career, the Golden Globes offer a prestige that many had not anticipated, especially when looking back at where the Bay Watch star was in the ’90s.
Pamela Anderson Winning a Golden Globe Would Be the Success Story of the Awards
While Pamela Anderson faces fierce competition, winning the Best Actress in a Drama award at the Golden Globes is not just a pipe dream for the star and public persona. In The Last Showgirl, where Anderson plays Shelly, a Vegas performer dealing with the uncertainty of living a life in ‘the business’ and seeing that end, has been praised. Notably, Anderson navigates a range of complex emotions to give a heartbreaking and resonating performance.
Her winning the award would not only give the actor some redemption after a long career of not being taken seriously but also offer a redemptive arc to Anderson’s years of adversity. Anderson, who had faced abuse in her early life and through her marriage to Tommy Lee, has often been in the public spotlight in a negative light. However, with the release of Pamela: A Love Story on Netflix, a lot of the actor’s struggles came to light, humanizing her in a way that evoked empathy from viewers that was lacking before.
While we will have to wait to see the outcome of the Golden Globes, Pamela Anderson picking up an award for Best Actress would certainly be a reason for many to celebrate. The Last Showgirl has a limited theatrical release on December 13, 2024, in L.A. and will see a nationwide release on January 10, 2025. The 82nd annual Golden Globes is set to air on January 5, 2025, 8 PM to 11 PM ET, and will also be available in the USA on Paramount+.
