Progress is moving along on Invincible’s second season as Steven Yeun is officially back in the recording booth working on new dialogue. Footage of the actor back at it was posted to Twitter, providing a small tease at Yeun’s return as the voice of Mark Grayson. We don’t get to hear Yeun in character as Mark, though he expresses his excitement at getting to make more Invincible before having some awkward banter about when he should or shouldn’t have the video cut off.

Back in January, Yeun gave an update on season 2, revealing that he hadn’t even gotten to work on the new episodes at the time but that it would be coming up quickly. The actor also spoke about how Invincible creator Robert Kirkman promised a second season that would exceed season 1, and Yeun couldn’t help but agree thinking about all of the “bonkers” moments that are yet to come. As he told Collider:

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“We haven’t started. I know we’re starting at some point soon. I’ve talked to Robert [Kirkman], here and there. He’s super excited about it. He thinks season 2 is gonna be even better than season 1, which I have no doubt about. If you go to his source material, Invincible is an incredible comic, and just thinking about how much story hasn’t been told from that run, it’s gonna be bonkers. I’m really excited about it.”

Invincible Was an Instant Success on Prime Video

Prime Video

Invincible is based on the comic book series by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley. The animated series follows 17-year-old Mark Grayson after he becomes a new superhero under the tutelage of his father, Omni-Man, the world’s most powerful superhero. Mark also learns his father’s dark family secrets and the two come to a crossroads when they realize they want very, very different things in life.

The animated series premiered on Prime Video in April 2021. In addition to its acclaim from viewers and critics, Invincible also pulled in high viewership on the streaming service. Amazon wanted more where that came from and has since renewed Invincible for seasons 2 and 3. Yeun also told Collider how pleasantly surprised he was by the show’s instant success.

“I’ll be honest, I did not expect this level of response. People really enjoyed the show. That’s not to say that I thought the show wouldn’t be enjoyed. I just didn’t know how many people were coming to it like that. To me, I think it speaks to America’s appetite now for adult animation, which is really cool. I grew up on it. I think all of us, of our generation and below, grew up on it. Largely, our programming was dictated by the generations before us, that didn’t necessarily love animation that way. We’re in a weird, cool time where I’m seeing so many kids watch anime and so many people watch adult animation.”

Invincible is streaming on Prime Video. No release date has yet been announced for season 2.
