A second season of the hit thriller series, The Night Manager, is now in development.

BBC/AMC

After years of rumors and speculation, a second season of the hit thriller series The Night Manager is now in the works courtesy of Amazon Prime Video. And Marvel star Tom Hiddleston will return as lead protagonist Jonathan Pine. The news has been revealed by Deadline, with both Amazon Studios and the BBC, who launched the critically acclaimed first season back in 2016, reportedly all set to green light “a two-season order.” Meaning there could be a lot more from The Night Manager to come.

According to the report, The Night Manager Season 2 is being worked on under the codename “Steelworks,” and will begin filming later this year. The next adventure for Jonathan Pine will take the man out of Cairo, the primary setting of the first outing, with filming due to take place in London and South America.

Writer David Farr, who penned the first season of The Night Manager, will also return to write the second season, which will reportedly pick up with Jonathan Pine several years after the dramatic events of the finale. According to the report, The Night Manager Season 2 will begin with Pine being informed that British arms dealer Richard Roper, played in the first series by Hugh Laurie, is now dead after being taken away by the vicious buyers who just lost $300 million on his fumbled arms deal. Thus, “Hiddleston’s Pine is informed he is dead two years later, and he has to face up to a new, even more deadly challenge,” reads the report.

Any further details remain a mystery at this time, and The Night Manager Season 2 has not yet been given a release date.

The Night Manager is Based on the Novel by John le Carré

BBC/AMC

Released back in 2016, and co-produced by the BBC, AMC and The Ink Factory, the first season of The Night Manager introduces audiences to Loki and Kong: Skull Island star Tom Hiddleston as Jonathan Pine, the night manager of a luxury hotel in Cairo and former British soldier. Taking pride in running the prestige hotel, Pine finds himself recruited by Angela Burr, the manager of a Foreign Office task force, and instructed to infiltrate the inner circle of arms dealer Richard Roper. So, Pine must attempt to integrate himself into Roper’s inner circle by becoming a felon himself, while keeping his mission a secret from his hotel colleagues and girlfriend.

Directed by Susanne Bier and starring Hugh Laurie, Olivia Colman, Tom Hollander, David Harewood and Elizabeth Debicki alongside Hiddleston, the first season of The Night Manager is based on the novel of the same name by John le Carré. Adapted for the present day by David Farr, the six-part first season was met with critical acclaim, and quickly became the must-watch season of the year.

The Night Manager was applauded for its smart writing and riveting story, as well as the captivating performances from both Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston, and while news of a second season is sure to have audiences excited for more, it’s baffling that it has taken this long.
