The ongoing Netflix Tudum event has revealed a first look at a new clip from the third season of the hit fantasy series, The Witcher. Released as part of the Netflix’s global fan event, The Witcher season three will see Man of Steel star Henry Cavill lead the way as Geralt of Rivia for the last time. Something that is sure to make the third outing popular when it premieres later this month. Check out the clip below.
“As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it,” the official synopsis for The Witcher season three reads. “Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line — or risk losing each other forever.”
From creator Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, The Witcher will continue to adapt the book series of the same name, continuing the saga of Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri, and Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia as they attempt to survive all manner of magic and monsters that dwell on medieval-inspired landmass known as the Continent.

The Witcher Season 3 Will Be Henry Cavill’s Final Appearance
Netflix
Fans of The Witcher are sure to flock to the third season when it lands on Netflix, with many no doubt equal parts excited and disappointed that it will be Henry Cavill’s final appearance as the monster-hunter Geralt. Cavill took to social media back in October last year to make the sudden announcement that The Witcher season three will be his last, with the role of Geralt being recast going into season 4 and beyond.
“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4,” Cavill said before revealing that Independence Day: Resurgence star Liam Hemsworth will play Geralt moving forward. “In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men.”
While fans have been left disappointed by the news of Cavill’s departure, The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is ready to embrace a new chapter. “I mean, we had the choice to have Geralt exit and to end the show. (But] that’s not something that we were willing to do,” she said. “There’s just too many stories left to tell. If we replaced Geralt with another Witcher, we would be going fully away from the books, and I don’t think that’s what anyone wanted either. […] We’re all excited about Liam coming in. He’s got enormous shoes to fill, but also has a lot of energy and a lot of excitement for it. It’s obviously a brand-new chapter for us. And there’s a lot of feelings involved. But at the end of the day, we love what we’re doing. So we’re gonna keep going.”
Volume one of The Witcher season three is scheduled to debut on Netflix on June 29, with volume two due to land on the platform on July 27.
