When Calls the Heart Feels Like an Ensemble Again — We Hope The Focus Remains on the Community

The last few seasons of When Calls the Heart have felt like the Nathan and Elizabeth show, with few other characters, aside from sometimes Rosemary, getting any screen time.

Since the beginning of When Calls the Heart Season 13, the series has changed. The couple is still front and center, but it feels more like an ensemble show again.

The entire Hope Valley community has been involved, and we want it to stay that way.

That’s what makes When Calls the Heart feel like home – close friends and community rallying together to help others.

As Elizabeth said, it’s the people, not the things, that make Hope Valley feel like home, and these are some ways to keep that sentiment alive this season.

Hope Valley Takes Time to Process Their Family and Friends, Welcoming New Friends into the Fold

Elizabeth’s journal entries are so wise. Hope Valley needs time to process this loss as they find a new normal.

It won’t be easy, but they can do it as they count their blessings.

While the Coulters lost both Goldie National Park and Rosemary’s Playhouse, they still had their family and their friends.

Now they welcomed Gwendolyn into their home because her father was in the hospital, and she only ever smiled around Goldie.

While they were grieving, a child needed them, and there was no time to think of themselves.

Elizabeth’s class size will likely double, and it’s essential that the new children feel comfortable at school, since the ones from Benson Hills lost everything.

It’s not just the typical first day of school, but about giving them time to adjust and providing them with the tools they need to succeed.

We’re also concerned about Toby and Cooper and wonder whether they’re traumatized by the events and believe they’ll never see their families again.

Or was it possible that it was an accident, and when they heated up some of their food, it accidentally sparked a fire?

When Calls the Heart Makes the Fire Investigation Season 13’s Mystery

When Calls the Heart has included a season-long mystery for the last few years. I think the fire investigation would be even more personal than the last two because it affected almost everyone.

Therefore, hopefully Lee’s hunch pays off: someone had a vendetta against them, and it wasn’t an accident involving the boys.

I suspect that while they suspect MacGinty, this fire investigation goes much deeper, and I’m eager to learn what the Hope Valley community saw when the teens were in the woods.

Is this the investigation that brings more Mounties and investigators to town, including the polygraph?

I suspect the community will be more invested in this mystery, mainly because it affected so many of their own, and many of the Benson Hills residents lost everything.

Both towns want justice, so it will be interesting to see them working together rather than as rivals.

Hope Valley Rebuilds and Helps Benson Hills Rebuild Their Community

Creating Goldie National Park and Rosemary’s Playhouse was such a massive deal for Lucas, Lee, and Rosemary.

They believed in future generations and creativity, so I wonder if Elizabeth and her students will tackle recreating one of those projects.

After all, it involves many subjects and hands-on learning. It would be the ideal way to include Henry since he’s versed in carpentry and plants.

However, even more important would be the community working together to rebuild Benson Hills with Lee and Maisie leading the charge.

They would know what was most important to rebuild first, be it business, houses, or crops.

It’s devastating that it takes a tragedy to bring towns together, but perhaps this will be a season of change and friendship.

The Hope Valley residents lost so much, and they need to bring joy back into their lives, like when the children hosted an on-air baseball game in Little Jack’s honor.

While it may have seemed frivolous when Rosemary and the other adults hosted that play in When Calls the Heart Season 12, that’s exactly what the community needs right now.

Even if the playhouse was destroyed, creating a play together and hosting it at the hotel would bring the town together.

No one knows theatre like Rosemary, and it would allow the adults and the children to learn the script, work on costumes, and build scenery in teams.

It might be the ideal project and celebration to integrate some newfound joy.

When Calls the Heart Balances Nathan and Elizabeth’s Airtime and Showcases Other Couples

Elizabeth and Nathan have earned their spot as When Calls the Heart’s main couple and have weathered many issues together, the latest being Little Jack’s diabetes and Allie’s being lost in the fire.

They work well in tragedies, supporting one another, and I’m sure they will again, helping the kids move past this crisis and helping their community.

However, they weren’t the only couple affected by the crisis, and I’m relieved we saw so many reactions on When Calls the Heart Season 13 Episode 2. When was the last time Mike and Mei got that much screentime?

Hopefully, they will continue to because Maisie is his sister.

When Ben Rosenbaum hinted he’d have family scenes this season, I never imagined that they’d be tragic or serious, as most Hickam family scenes were funny.

This should bring a new layer to them while Maisie stays with him and Mei, and give them an interesting story.

Lucas and Edie are in the early stages of a relationship, but Edie has seemed impressed by the softer, more caring side of Lucas during this crisis.

Hopefully, in the coming weeks, they’ll find time to discuss where things are at and move forward.

Allie and Oliver felt nervous around each other after a summer apart, but after Oliver realized he almost lost her in the fire, he didn’t hesitate to reveal how much he had missed her.

Young love is blossoming, and they could be the next generation of new couples.
