Cannabis Consumption Methods for Athletes

For many athletes, cannabis is a major component of their daily routine. Whether it’s used as an alternative to opiates for pain relief, or as a way to increase energy and focus before a big game, the benefits of cannabis for athletes are numerous. The use of cannabis can even help athletes recover faster from injuries by reducing inflammation and swelling. Cannabis also makes an excellent addition to post-workout routines, helping users relax and release endorphins after intense exercise sessions. With these kinds of benefits on offer, why not give marijuana a try?

If you are interested in trying out marijuana, you should know that different consumption methods, such as dry herb vaporizers, dab rigs like those available at online sites such as Grasscity, edibles, and many more have different onset times and durations, which can be confusing if you have never consumed marijuana before. Here are a few different marijuana consumption methods that are best suited for athletes.

Edibles
Edibles as a marijuana consumption method are nothing new and can be traced back to India, as long ago as 1500 BCE. The first edible recipe to appear was in the 1960’s, and since legalization, edibles can be found in a variety of different forms. For athletes, this is good news, especially for those on a diet, since you won’t be limited to brownies or candies which can be quite high in sugar content.

One reason why edibles would be a great choice for athletes is because of how long the effects last. The onset for edibles is usually between 1 to 3 hours, and the effects can last between 6 to 8 hours. This means that you can eat one before your workout, experience the effects during your workout, and not have to feel aching arms or legs for the duration of when you’re home.

Dry Herb Vaporizers
For many people, the prospect of experiencing the psychoactive effects of marijuana for about 6 hours can seem overwhelming, and this is perfectly understandable. If you are someone that just wants to experience the pain-relieving benefits that marijuana can provide for a shorter period then dry herb vaporizers are for you.

The onset for dry herb vaporizers is similar to that of smoking it, and you will feel the effects within 5 minutes. The duration is also very similar, depending on how much you consume, at around 2 hours. One of the reasons why dry herb vaporizers are a good choice for athletes is because dry herb vaporizers allow you to choose the intensity of the effects that you feel. This means that if you just want help with concentration whilst at the gym, you can use a lower temperature and get less strong effects.

Tinctures
Tinctures are another great alternative for those who don’t want to smoke, vape or eat marijuana. This marijuana consumption method has become quite popular over the last few years, especially within the medicinal community. Marijuana tinctures are basically small vials that contain marijuana concentrate, which you then drop under your tongue.

This is a great choice for athletes because of the convenience this consumption method offers, along with the fact that the duration is around 4 hours. This makes it perfect if you’re experiencing muscle aches the next day after exercising, and just want relief for a few hours.

Topicals
For those that don’t want to experience the psychoactive effects that marijuana provides, Marijuana and CBD topicals would be the perfect consumption method. This is because marijuana and CBD topicals are applied directly to the skin, which means using them won’t make you high.

In order to use a marijuana or CBD topical, all you need to do is to apply it to the area which is experiencing pain and wait for the pain-relieving properties to kick in. Before using marijuana or CBD topical, you should always read through the list of ingredients to make sure that it doesn’t contain anything that might irritate your skin.

Bath Bombs
The final marijuana consumption method on this list for athletes is bath bombs, which is a relatively new consumption method in the market. You probably have seen bath bombs before; they look like colorful balls which are thrown into the bath and then dissolve.

This method is similar to topicals in the way that it doesn’t produce psychoactive effects. However, since it does enter into the bloodstream, you will feel calming effects, such as intense relaxation. This is perfect for athletes that relax their muscles in the bath after a workout.
