Fans Call for Bryce Dallas Howard to Direct Star Wars Movie

There are no guarantees that having a famous director as a father automatically means you’ll have their talent, but it looks like Bryce Dallas Howard certainly has proven that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. The daughter of renowned actor and director Ron Howard has already proven herself in both fields, having starred in movies from Spider-Man 3 to the Jurassic World franchise and worked behind the camera on episodes of Star Wars series The Mandalorian. Now she has returned to directing for The Book of Boba Fett’s fifth episode, which surprisingly focussed solely on The Mandalorian’s Din Djarin, and has led to calls for Howard to be allowed to direct her own Star Wars movie.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

Ever since the final credits rolled on Return of the Jedi in 1983, filmmakers including J.J. Abrams, Rian Johnson, Gareth Edwards and even Ron Howard have all joined George Lucas in expanding the world of Star Wars on the big screen with prequels, sequels and spin-offs that have more often than not led to more criticism than praise. Shows like The Mandalorian have continued to build the universe of the franchise, and has seen Bryce Dallas Howard and others gaining a lot of fan support for their work on the series, which is no mean feat.

The Book of Boba Fett has seen Howard returning to cement her place as one of the most focussed directors to have worked on the franchise. The latest episode of the Fett series returned to storylines from The Mandalorian, and with Howard having already worked on multiple episodes of both seasons of that show, she certainly seems to have been the perfect choice to direct fan-favorite Djarin’s return to screens in the spin-off of the spin-off. Following Wednesday’s episode, Twitter was full of praise for Howard, both from fans and from others in the industry. Check out some support for her work below.

Bryce Dallas Howard Is Building a Solid Career Behind the Camera as Well as In Front of It

Bryce Dallas Howard started her acting career decades before taking on the role of Claire Dearing in the Jurassic World franchise, from her first small roles in Apollo 13 and How The Grinch Stole Christmas, through bigger parts in The Twilight Saga, Pete’s Dragon and Rocketman, and onto her now-filming spy thriller Argylle, which also stars Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell and Bryan Cranston.

Having directed on documentary film Dads, and then expanded her exposure behind the camera with The Mandalorian, Howard is set to take on the upcoming remake of Flight of the Navigator, the 1986 family sci-fi adventure, which was recently announced coming soon. While there are a lot of potential Star Wars projects for Howard to get her teeth into when the time is right, she will not be too far from the franchise until then as she is returning for the third season of The Mandalorian.

Recently, Disney+ series’ have taken away the sparkle of the big screen Star Wars outings, and with the Obi-Wan Kenobi series arriving this year, that is something that seems set to continue in the near future. Right now, the Patty Jenkins directed Rogue Squadron, which hit delays at the end of last year, is one of the few movie projects currently in production. While there may be a big-budget movie or two to come in the future, the where and when is something that is currently lingering somewhere in a galaxy far, far away.
