No Way Home Wins Best Movie at MTV Movie & TV Awards

Your winner for Best Movie at the MTV Movie & TV Awards is the epic superhero feature Spider-Man: No Way Home. Debuting in theaters back in December to become the highest-grossing film of the pandemic era, No Way Home was one of the most ambitious superhero movies yet. Of course, the film appealed to Spider-Man fans of multiple generations by uniting Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire all into one story.

There were several contenders to take the Best Movie award, so the film was in good company with its competition. The nominees included Scream, The Batman, The Adam Project, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Dune. With that said, it’s still not a big shocker to see Spider-Man: No Way Home take the win here, given its immense popularity and success.

It has also proven to be a great night for Zendaya, who appeared in No Way Home as MJ. She also picked up a big win, grabbing an award for Best Performance in a Show with her role in the HBO series Euphoria. That follows a prior Emmy win for her acting on that show, which had set the record as the youngest female performer to get that honor.

Spider-Man: No Way Home was also the most-nominated film of the night, as it was also up for Best Performance in a Movie for Tom Holland, Best Hero for Tom Holland, Best Villain for Willem Dafoe, Best Fight for Spider-Men vs. Multiverse Villains, Best Kiss for Zendaya and Tom Holland, and Best Team for Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire.

Of course, there are already early plans for more Spider-Man movies to be made, given all of the success that continues to come for Spider-Man: No Way Home. Tom Holland has suggested that he’s not in a rush to do another film, and while he hasn’t written off coming back as Peter Parker in more movies, he also has said he feels satisfied with his run in the role and would be happy to move on. But Sony chairman Tom Rothman feels confident Holland will be back in the red-and-blue suit soon enough.

“We have our Marvel business, which breaks into three tranches,” Rothman told Deadline. “There are the Spider-Man movies, and we’re currently at work on two Spider-Verse sequels to our Oscar winning animated movie, with Lord and Miller. We hope to get working on the next Spider-Man movie.”

Jon Watts directed Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was penned by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. The film stars Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire, as well as Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau, Marisa Tomei, Willem Dafoe, Jamie Foxx, and Alfred Molina. The multiverse has since been further explored with the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which in some ways serves as a follow-up film to Spider-Man: No Way Home.
