Spoiler Warning: Spoilers for the finale of Obi-Wan Kenobi Ahead
It’s been 23 years since fans last saw Liam Neeson in the role of a live-action Jedi. He played Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, acting as a master to Ewan McGregor’s padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Unfortunately, Qui-Gon was cut down by Darth Maul in the film’s final moments, leaving Obi-Wan to train Anakin Skywalker, setting off the events of the nine-film Skywalker Saga within the Star Wars universe.
However, in the Disney+ hit series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Neeson reprised his role in a brief cameo as a force ghost, communicating with McGregor’s Obi-Wan. The moment was special for Star Wars fans, as they had asked for the actor to reprise his role since his first and only appearance in the franchise. The possibility was always there to return in later films; however, it took until 2022 and the days of streaming on Disney+ before the beloved actor would return.

Earlier this week, on August 14, Ewan McGregor appeared at a Fan Expo event in Boston and shared his praise and admiration for Neeson with ComicBook.com. The Obi-Wan actor said having this ‘great relationship that we got to create together is fantastic.’
“Liam is a hero of mine. Liam has got to be, I don’t know, ten years, maybe a bit more, older than I. So when I was growing up and wanting to be an actor, I was always watching Liam Neeson’s work, and he was involved in some beautiful work as a younger actor. And so to get the chance to work with him and to have this great relationship that we got to create together is fantastic, and to get the chance to work with himself again on the series right at the end.”
Liam Neeson isn’t done with Star Wars, as he’s set to reprise his role once again in a voice-acting position in Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi animated series. The show will be a 6-part animated short series arriving on Disney+ later this fall.

Liam Neeson Said He Was Too Good for Television Before His Appearance
Fans were devastated to hear Liam Neeson wouldn’t be returning for Obi-Wan Kenobi last April, which he revealed during an interview with ComicBook.com. The actor says he prefers the big screen and wouldn’t be making an appearance in the Disney+ series. But, of course, this turned out to be a lie, and Neeson made his return in June to the adoration of fans.
“Oh, I think so, yeah, yeah, yeah, I think so…if it was a film. Yeah, I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to TV, I must admit, I just like the big screen, you know?”
Although Neeson is returning for Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, fans are wondering, is there any chance the beloved actor returns once again in a live-action setting? Unfortunately, the actor is now 70 years old, and the window of opportunity for more appearances is quickly closing. However, another portrayal may not be necessary with the great send-off in Obi-Wan Kenobi.
