Ashanti’s Metal Mesh Dress at Fat Joe’s Birthday Party

Dressed to the nines, Ashanti made a showstopping entrance at rapper Fat Joe’s 52nd birthday party on Friday, Aug. 19. The singer, who was recently honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, wowed in a two-toned metal mesh chain-mail dress from Fannie Schiavoni at the celebration in New York City, which also saw stars like Mary J. Blige, Busta Rhymes, and Gayle King in attendance.

Handmade with 100 percent stainless steel and brass, her minidress featured silver and black draped panel detailing that created a slit down the side. With the help of celebrity fashion stylist Tim B., Ashanti piled on more metallic and silver accessories, including a pair of embellished sandals from Jessica Rich and jewelry from Pristine Jewelers. She also finished with a sparkly “Hollywood Walk of Fame Star” ring gifted by her “momager,” Tina Douglas, in addition to glittery silver eye makeup and a sleek ponytail.

Interestingly, Ashanti also turned heads in another bold number at Fat Joe’s 51st birthday party last year. For the occasion, she wore a printed blue minidress with numerous cutouts held together by just three metallic rings.

Fannie Schiavoni was the perfect choice for her latest glam statement, as demonstrated in the past by celebrities like Ashley Graham, Selena Gomez, and Ariana Grande. Graham once wore a “freezing cold” chain-mail dress with a high slit from the brand on the red carpet and a short, gold iteration at a Met Gala afterparty. Gomez previously rocked the designer’s backless chain-mail minidress for a music video, while Grande styled a sarong-style metallic skirt for a photo shoot.

Ahead, see more photos of Ashanti’s sultry ensemble.
