Barbarian Clip Goes Behind the Scenes with Justin Long and Director Zach Cregger

Barbarian Clip Goes Behind the Scenes with Justin Long and Director Zach Cregger

The acclaimed horror flick Barbarian will be arriving on digital just in time for the Halloween holiday, set to hit all major digital platforms on Oct. 25. Ahead of the release, we have an exclusive clip to debut from the bonus features of star Justin Long speaking about his character, AJ. You can watch the clip below.

“AJ’s a man of, well, he’s a man of many tastes. He’s complicated… he’s a douchebag,” Long jokes.

Director Zach Cregger also explains why he thought Long was perfect for the part of AJ. He reveals how he initially thought of casting a stereotypical “hunk” with large biceps and a slick haircut, but he realized that was a bit “too on-the-nose.” With Long, Cregger felt that Long was better suited to bring the character to life, given his natural charisma, though he was also eager to see the actor playing a more dastardly character.

“For AJ, Justin was an interesting choice,” he said. “Justin has this incredibly appealing, likable, disarming charm. Not threatening. And I’ve never seen Justin be truly despicable in a movie before, and he does it really well in this.”

Barbarian, from 20th Century Studios and New Regency, also stars Georgina Campbell and Bill Skarsgård, and Justin Long. Cregger wrote the screenplay in addition to directing. Roy Lee produced with Arnon Milchan, Raphael Margules, and J.D. Lifshitz.

The official logline for Barbarian reads:

Arriving in Detroit for a job interview, a young woman books a rental home. But when she arrives late at night, she discovers that the house is double booked and a strange man is already staying there. Against her better judgement, she decides to spend the evening, but soon discovers that there’s a lot more to fear than just an unexpected house guest.

Fans who pick up the digital release of Barbarian will be treated to bonus features that go behind the scenes of the hit film. That includes our clip above as part of the new footage from the making of Barbarian, and deleted scenes that didn’t make the theatrical cut will also be available to watch.

The bonus features also include the featurette “Behind Barbarian,” where Zach Cregger and the cast and crew discuss both the “unique and familiar horror elements that make Barbarian terrifying and reveal the inspiration behind the horrific tale.” The four deleted scenes that are also included are called “Bonnie,” “Doug Extended,” “Tess Calls Marcus,” and “The Rat.”

Barbarian arrives on all major digital platforms on Oct. 25, 2022. You can watch the official trailer below, courtesy of 20th Century Studios.
