Zack Snyder Reveals Sucker Punch’s Original Ending Teasing Director’s Cut Release

Zack Snyder really wants his fans to enjoy his original conceptions of his movies. After what he was able to achieve with the Release the Snyder Cut movement for his Justice League movie, the director is ready to release another unseen version of one of his most controversial projects.

A few years before getting into the superhero world with Man of Steel, Snyder invited the audience to a surreal and complex trip with Sucker Punch, a sci-fi adventure that has generated mix reviews and has opened the door to multiple debates trying to understand the message behind the movie.

It’s been almost 10 years since the film came out, but the director still wants fans to be able to see his original vision for Sucker Punch, which had a different ending. Teasing the possibility of finally releasing the director’s cut of the movie, Snyder revealed the original outcome of the story in an interview with Letterboxd:

“I’ve never gotten around to doing the director’s cut. I still plan to at some point. But in the original ending when Babydoll is in the chair in the basement with Blue – she’s already been lobotomized – when the cop shines the light on her, the set breaks apart and she stands up and she sings a song on stage. Yeah. She sings, ‘Ooh, Child, things are gonna get easier.’ Blondie, and all the people that have been killed, join in and it’s the idea that in a weird way, even though she’s lobotomized, she’s kind of stuck in this infinite loop of euphoric victory. It’s weirdly not optimistic and optimistic at the same time. That’s kind of what the tone was at the end. We tested it and the studio thought it was too weird, so we changed it.”

Although an extended version of the film was released with the Blu-ray, which added 18 minutes to the theatrical version, Snyder said several times that it wasn’t his version and there are still a lot of things viewers haven’t been able to enjoy from the film.

What Is Sucker Punch About?

Warner Bros.

Sucker Punch centers on Babydoll, a young girl who’s locked in a mental hospital. In an attempt to get away from her awful reality, she imagines an alternate world. In that reality, Babydoll is a dancer, and she has other dancer friends, all together working on a brothel.

But things are not better in that new world, so she imagines another reality from where she gets the information and elements that would help her escape the brothel. Back in that reality, Babydoll convinces her friends to join her in her adventure so all of them can be free. While she dances as a distraction, the rest of the group tries to recollect the elements they need to escape. And while dancing, Babydoll witnesses other realities which represent the battle that every girl goes through.

The film stars Emily Browning, Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung, Carla Gugino, Scott Glenn, Oscar Isaac, and Jon Hamm.
