Marvel Studios have revealed the main cast of their forthcoming X-Men film, including Adam Driver as the villain Mister Sinister.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige made the announcement during Disney’s D23 convention in Anaheim, California yesterday (August 14), where the first X-Men film to be produced as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) began to take shape.
Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) will return as Jean Grey, while Kit Connor (Heartstopper) has been cast as Scott Summers, aka Cyclops. Samara Weaving (Ready Or Not) will take on the role of Emma Frost, with Christopher Abbott (Poor Things) playing Charles Xavier, aka Profressor X, Maya Boyd (& Juliet) appearing as Storm and Inde Navarrette (Obsession) playing Rogue.
The cast joined Feige and director Jake Schreier on stage, while Driver appeared via video. Feige told the audience that most of the actors had only met one another backstage shortly before the announcement.
“Kevin and I had been talking for years about my joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and I think we finally found the perfect film,” Driver said.
He went on to joke that he was “very excited” to be playing Magneto, before correcting himself and announcing, “even better, Nathaniel Milbury”, in reference to one of the aliases used by Mister Sinister in Marvel Comics.
Sink has already made her debut as the all-powerful Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, ending months of speculation about her role in the film. In a four-star review of that movie, NME wrote: “As for the new additions – Sadie Sink’s character is intended to be a mystery, so we won’t spoil the big reveal, but she makes for a captivatingly creepy antagonist in the first act before we hear things from her perspective.”
The new X-Men film will be directed by Schreier, who previously helmed Thunderbolts*. Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo, who also worked on Thunderbolts*, as well as Netflix‘s Beef, are writing the screenplay.
It will be the first standalone X-Men film produced by Marvel Studios, after Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox in 2019 brought the characters under the same umbrella as the MCU.
The film will arrive in cinemas on May 5, 2028, following Avengers: Secret Wars in December 2027, which Feige has said will serve as a “reboot” for the MCU.
Before then, a number of actors from Fox’s version of X-Men will reprise their roles in Avengers: Doomsday, including Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops, Kelsey Grammer as Beast and Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler.
The first full trailer for Doomsday arrived last month – watch it above – and it will be released on December 18.
