Serena Williams Says Betting on Yourself Is More Powerful Together

Serena Williams took the stage at Invest Festival on August 12 and delivered one of her more exciting talks about ownership and what it means to build something real.

The tennis legend wasn’t there to revisit her 23 Grand Slam titles. She showed up with a clear message for the room. Ownership matters. Purpose matters. And betting on yourself alongside a group of people doing the same thing? That’s a whole different kind of fuel.

Williams shared her thoughts on Instagram afterward. “Loved being in a room full of people betting on themselves,” she posted. “I know what that takes, and how powerful it can be when we do it together. Thank you @investfestival for a meaningful conversation about ownership, purpose, and what we’re building next.”

That last bit, “what we’re building next,” is the exciting part. No details came with it. But Williams doesn’t typically use language like that without something real behind it. Something is coming.

The message is very on-brand for who Serena has become outside of tennis. She stepped back from professional tennis after the 2022 US Open. The investment and entrepreneurship work has kept her very busy ever since.

She founded Serena Ventures in 2014, a firm that backs early-stage companies. The firm has a particular focus on founders who often get overlooked by traditional investors. It’s not a side hobby. She’s put real time and attention into it for over a decade.

Williams has been steadily building her presence in the investment community. Tuesday at Invest Festival was another example of her showing up where those conversations happen. She talks about ownership and capital access as things she’s been actively working on, not abstract ideas.

Her core message at the event was about collective momentum. Betting on yourself is great on its own. Doing it alongside other people who are also pushing hard? Williams made clear she thinks that combination is the real power move.

It’s a point that connects to her whole career. She built her tennis legacy with a big support system around her. In her view, the business world works the same way.

She’s also kept active beyond the investment world. Her fashion work has stayed consistent, and she shows up at major business events regularly. The post-tennis chapter has been genuinely full.

The fun tease is still “what we’re building next.” Nothing has been confirmed publicly as of Tuesday. Williams tends to move quickly, though. She signals something and then delivers.

For anyone following her post-tennis journey, August 12 was a cool reminder. Serena Williams hasn’t slowed down one bit. The court looks different now. The drive is exactly the same.
