Details of The White Lotus season three remain under wraps, but we do know that it will begin filming in Thailand next month and follow “a patriarch, a female corporate executive, an actress, a couple of mothers, including a country club wife, a misfit and a yogi,” according to Deadline.
The recent strikes in Hollywood saw HBO begin to modify its schedule for the coming years, and the prequel to It, Welcome to Derry and the third season of The White Lotus are expected be two of the main victims of the delays. HBO has become a synonym for quality for those looking for what series to watch next. Long before the existence of streaming, and before TV shows occupied a place as important as the one they have now, HBO was already releasing productions that took the world by surprise such as The Sopranos and Band of Brothers. Today, they have been able to expand their catalog and reach the entire world thanks to streaming, and the demand for content is much greater, with all studios and companies seeking to meet that demand. But sometimes it can be difficult.
Given the crisis that Warner Bros. Discovery has been going through and the strikes that hit Hollywood this year, it was evident that HBO was not going to be able to release as many series this year as they previously did. And Casey Bloys, HBO boss, confirms it.
During a press event in New York (via Variety), Bloys revealed that two of HBO’s most anticipated productions that were due to premiere in 2024 will have to be delayed to 2025. These productions are the long-awaited It prequel titled Welcome to Derry and the third season of acclaimed mystery drama The White Lotus:
“Welcome to Derry, we had had that scheduled for Halloween of 2024. That’s likely 2025. White Lotus Season 3 probably would have been in play for 2024, it’s 2025.”
The White Lotus has become one of HBO’s strongest titles, winning a long list of awards. In fact, it was originally intended as a limited series, but ended up becoming an anthology after the excellent reception of the first installment.

How Will Welcome to Derry Expand the World of It?
Warner Bros. Pictures
In 2017, director Andy Muschietti impressed critics and audiences alike with his remake of It. Following on from the first adaptation of Stephen King’s acclaimed novel, released in 1990, was no easy feat thanks to the incredible performance of Tim Curry as Pennywise. But, rise to the challenge Andy Muschietti did. Mostly.
Muschietti, who had just directed the disturbing horror film Mama, achieved a largely well-received result with both movies (though mostly the first one). And, much like the TV adaptation, praise was heaped on the actor behind Pennywise, Bill Skarsgård. Such was the success of his films, that when David Zaslav decided to focus on Warner Bros. Discovery’s most successful franchises, It was included.
Welcome to Derry will take place years before the main events of the book and its adaptations, focusing on the origins of Pennywise and his connection to the famous fictional town of Derry, Maine. So it is possible that it will be full of references to all of Stephen King’s bibliography, and many new horror elements to enrich the story of one of the most popular characters of the genre.
