It’s still on the way! It’s percolating.

Goldberg, who is not only the star but also deeply involved behind the scenes, revealed that the script is currently being fine-tuned. “It’s still on the way! It’s percolating,” she assured fans during the Garden of Laughs event at Madison Square Garden. Despite the lengthy wait since the announcement, the 68-year-old actress remains optimistic about the film’s progress.

The challenge of crafting the perfect script is not lost on Goldberg, who admits to being tempted to take matters into her own hands. She acknowledged her limits in juggling multiple tasks simultaneously. Goldberg stated:

“Yes and no.
It’s hard to do everything.
And I like to think that I can, but I’ve come to the understanding that I can’t do as much stuff simultaneously, as I’d like to.”

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, and the anticipation for the third installment has only intensified. Goldberg’s desire to deliver a sequel that lives up to fans’ expectations is evident. In a previous appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, she hinted at her satisfaction with the script, saying:

“I really like it but it has a whole lot of adults to go through. So, if they don’t get in its way, it could actually be pretty good.”

Whoopi Goldberg Holds Out for Maggie Smith in Sister Act 3’s Disney+ Debut

The upcoming Disney+ release has sparked speculation about the return of familiar faces, including the revered Maggie Smith, who played Mother Superior in the original films. Goldberg has made it clear that Smith’s involvement is crucial, even offering to accommodate her needs to ensure her return. She said:

“I want to let Maggie Smith know that I’m holding the part of Mother Superior for you, because I just can’t do it with anybody but you. So, if you need me to come over here and shoot it and do whatever we have to do, we will do whatever you want us to do. But we don’t want to do it without you, Maggie.”

Adding to the anticipation, Tyler Perry has joined the project as a producer alongside Goldberg. The renowned filmmaker has expressed his eagerness to expedite the sequel’s production. Perry voiced his frustration with the slow pace, saying, “I’m a little annoyed with how long this has taken me. It’s taking so long.”
