‘Only Murders in the Building’ Is Officially Ditching the Building for Season 6

This article contains SPOILERS for Only Murders in the Building Season 5 finaleOnly Murders in the Building will return for another season, and the series will have a significant change of scenery. Heading into the final episode of Season 5, many fans suspected that Only Murders in the Building could be coming to an end with the fate of the titular building, the Arconia, hanging in the balance. The season concluded with the building being saved and the tenants not being forced out, but not before a shocking twist that set up a new murder mystery. One that would take the central trio of Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short), and Mabel (Selena Gomez) overseas.

Only Murders in the Building has been renewed for Season 6 by Hulu, according to Entertainment Weekly. The news comes hot on the heels of the Season 5 finale, which aired on Hulu and Disney+ on October 28. The official Instagram account shared a post announcing Season 6, confirming that viewers will see the main trio leave New York City and travel to London. Like the previous five seasons, Only Murders in the Building Season 6 will consist of ten episodes.

Only Murders in the Building Season 5 concluded with the shocking reveal that Cindy Canning (Tina Fey), the podcast host whose show brought the trio together and has been a recurring guest star, turned up dead. The season finale revealed that she was investigating a crime in London, England, one that seems to have gone south. With her making her way to the Arconia and using her last bit of life to barely reach the property line, it appears she knew in her dying moments that Oliver, Charles, and Mabel could solve the mystery and couldn’t ignore her if she managed to die on the property.

New York is tied to the Only Murders in the Building identity, so the new scenery will certainly be a significant change of pace. That said, the switch does take the group out of their comfort zone while also avoiding repetition, as the series has even called out how many deaths, murders, and crimes have occurred in the building since it began. Going international — specifically to Europe — is a time-honored sequel tradition. The Muppets, Spider-Man, National Lampoon’s Vacation, and even Garfield are just a few examples that did a European vacation spin in a follow-up. Now, even shows are changing their central location to spice things up, with Emily in Paris’ latest season ditching the titular city for Rome.

Where audiences might have gotten used to two-year waits for their favorite series, sometimes longer, as is the case with Stranger Things, fans of Only Murders in the Building have been lucky. Since the series debuted in 2021, Only Murders in the Building has maintained an annual release schedule, with a new season each year. Unless something significant happens to delay it, fans can expect Season 6 to debut in 2026.
